Finding the most bus to hook up HD radio
I am trying to make sure I can add HD radio to my new to me X5. I looked around in the hatch and did not see any extra fiber or power connectors. Are they all use because I have satellite radio and traffic?

There is a spare connector. I had purchased the iboc module myself for my CCC equipped X5, I had to remove a whole bunch of panels on the left side of the trunk, and it was wrapped in felt.
I ended up not doing the retro, and went to a CIC retrofit instead. The green and black cables are the fiber for the most ring in your picture above, so you can start looking

Thank for the info. I will dig a little deeper. I found where the bus is now so worst case, I can trace it back from there. The satellite radio install instructions show me everything I will need to do as the install is very similar.

I got some time to take apart the side panel tonight. I found the bus and it is full with 10 fibers. Currently there are 4 devices hooked to the bus so I am thinking I don't have a spare back there. I can expand with one of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-Mercedes...-/231595922119 but I will still need a power connector.

it has to be possible, since the BMW instructions don't say anything about having to remove HD radio or any other device in order to install Sirius. In your case, you already have Sirius, so you should be able to wire in HD radio as well.... worst case scenario you might have to give up Sirius and install HD radio in it's place

Tuner has arrived and I still can't find any extra connectors. Also, my backup plan of removing Sirius is not going to work. The power/most connector is slightly different and will not plug in to the HD tuner. All the pins line up but there is some extra plastic that prevents it from going in.
The tuner I purchased has a 14 day warranty so I hope I can get this hooked up, coded and tested. |

Ok fiber and power are figured out. I am just going to break off the plastic for a test. Now I am unsure where to hook in the antenna. The IBOC takes over all AM/FM/WB once hooked up. My splitter will only be used if I want to keep RTTI traffic. Where does the output from the diversity antenna hook into the system?
