I'd have to agree here, those yellow calipers really do make a good pop. Works really well with the white. Congrats!

I have now the ceramic pads on the M50d as they arrived mid week so I had 4 days of driving with oem's pads.

I had been running Carbotech ceramic pads in my past couple X5's but on this occasion had to get EBC Ceramic pads as Carbotech could not get hold on the front blank brake plates. The front rotors are 385mm and since the US is not getting the M50d, Europe was the only place that had them.

Both the European X5 & X6 50i run 385mm rotors (as well the M50d)because of the Autobahn.

The new compound from EBC I would say is a little better than the Carbotech's, the brake force is less and the bite is greater, also up against the OEM's which while on felt soft and spongy also.

The dust from the OEM's was terrible to say the least, due to the front pads being so large, you can imagine how much brake dust there would have been. I would say the ceramics are 60% less dust but that will improve as they bed-in. (previous ceramics pads got better as time passed).

Thanks, yeah a white X5 needs someting to standout, the fact its a M50d with those large calipers, its sort of reasonable to assume it would have painted calipers of some sort.

You will notice in the photo of the instrument panel the fuel consumption is at 14.2ltr/100klm, I have now done 300klm during this week of city driving and it is now down to 11.1ltr/100klm.

I am hoping that with the 8 speed gearbox and the fact the diesel engine is not working as hard to get it down to around 10.2ltr/100klm city driving?

I am supprised that Canada is not getting the M50d, your emission's are not as harsh as the US are they? the M50d is being sold in the UK & Europe as well and it meets the standards there!

For sure. I love the blue, but I don't want anyone to think I have a X5M. That's just not how I roll!

Hi Wat,

I'm waiting for my X5 M50D to be delivered. I've ordered it mid of May. Tell me, what are your impressions. I had 1 day test drive with X5 40D and fell in love with this car. M50D must be much better, right?

Hi, I got the new formula Red Stuff Ceramic, and they are working very well.

They are alot better than the OEM's.

Its a monster, definitely handles better than the 40d M-Sport with Adaptive drive, they have revised the suspension bushes and generally tightened it up. It is alot more flatter thru the corners.

The 8 speed sports gearbox is quick and with all that torque quite smooth up thru the rev range.

Not sure if I will get 65,000klm out of my tyres this time, and you won't believe the sound it makes in the cabin, outside it sounds like a diesel, inside it rumbles like V8.

At 5.4 sec & 746nm there not to many that drag you off at the lights, I have already given a few Nissan drivers a fright.

Thank you! I like the yellow pads of yours, d
on't know if our dealer here in Sofia could offer such things. My X5 will be silver metalic, so yellow or orange pads will look nice I think...

Chalk & Cheese, the 8 speed changes smoothly up thru the gears whereas the 6 speed seems to jump from one gear to the next. Definitely a very smooth gearbox, also the power just seems to pull up thru the gears.

Although the M50d has a sports tuned 8 speed gearbox I have not driven the normal LCI 8 speed box, but I would say the sports box probably just holds the revs longer and maybe a little quicker in the gear changes.
