trunk only opens up with remote, why it doesn't close?
How come we can only open the trunk from the remote and inside button and can't close it the same way?
I hope it's not only my car. |

I believe it is due to lawyers in the US, it is an option on non US models, but not in the US, manual only talks about opening with the buttons not closing.
There are 2 guys I know of them can code it to work, Alekshop on the forum here and Patryk in Poland does remote coding that could code it correctly.

Yep, just like how you can open the windows and sunroof with the remote, but can't close them (CA only option I think.) To close them, you have to be standing right by the X and use the CA ridges on the handle.
I'd love to have remote closing on all those things.

He offers a remote coding service on the Forum - he coded my E93, just sends you the cable and remote controls your windows laptop with the cable installed and loads some software via remote control and codes the car, then you send the cable to the next customer - worked really well for my car - he can add most of the missing things, like windows up from the remote, back door, had him code my headlights with the euro software so the orange lights don't normally come on and he can also do stuff like add digital speed to the dash display where you toggle through fuel economy etc. Oh and remote folding mirrors - double click lock and the mirrors will fold in also! Very cool stuff!

I don't know if this will work with you guys or not, but after you open the trunk try pressing the trunk button on the fob or the one in the dashboard for more than 5 seconds and the trunk should close. It works well on my euro spec 2009 x5 not sure if it will work on X5s across the pond.

BMW went cheap and the hatch shuts quick and hard requiring a lot of effort to reverse. It could easily harm a child or animal.

I am so glad I read this thread I was wondering what was wrong with my x5 rear hatch and was about to take it in to the dealer! Will probably get some additional coding done while getting the CIC retrofit! Thanks for the info folks!

I tested Mr 7's advice yesterday and pressed the trunk fob for 5 seconds and sure enough the tailgate closed. I had to keep the fob button depressed until full closure otherwise it would stop closing.
I have an Australian car and its the first time I have done this so thanks Mr 7. |
