Increased Battery Discharge solution
UPDATE: This specific charger only works in 220-240V (had to return it because here we run on 110-120V), you can get the same one (no BMW logo) working on 110-120V in Amazon (CTEK (56-959) MUS 4.3 TEST&CHARGE 12V Battery Charger) for $95
"Increased Battery Discharge" on M cars. just wanted to share with you a battery charger I bought today from my local BMW dealer (part # 61-43-2-334-068) It charges (trickle 5.o Amps), also checks battery status, alternator status and checks startup (cranking)of the engine, seems like a nice gadget, hope it will solve my Increased Battery Discharge warning. Check the pics video and pictures below:

This is a CTEK charger and you can find them on Amazon (for those of you with access to this).
Look up CTEK 4.3 and you will see the various models avail. The 3300 is also a good one but does not have the recondition mode (which is ok, but not a long term solution)

Thanks for posting as I wanted to mention that this model is now available in the US.
I bought the 82-11-2-296-579 BMW Power Tender plus ( older type charger), but it only shows what stage the battery is charging, i.e Bulk & absorption, absorption or fully charged. This (new/er) model seems to display much more. Charger is cheap compared to cost of replacement battery. One time I drove away with the connections in place, I thought that when the wires separated that they were severed. I was happy to see that that was not the case as there is a quick disconnect whereby they simply became unplugged. |

Why does the error only occur in the winter months. My X5M is a daily driver and does not sit anything more than overnight hours. Is it just the temp that can drop it just enough to create an error? It has not happened since January, February...

I ended ordering the CTEK (56-959) MUS 4.3 TEST&CHARGE 12V Battery Charger from Amazon because for my bad luck, the one I bought locally was an European version only so it only runs in 220-240V, here is Costa Rica we use 110-120V as in the US
The problem with my car is that only runs about 15 miles per day average (5000 per year) and in work days,it seats in my office from 9am till 6pm... I hope this charger will stop the warning message, will keep you posted after I start using it, hopefully will get it by this Monday
