Does your X6 "drink" engine oil

My X6 35i is only 2 weeks old and I got a warning that its engine oil is low. Then after checking by the workshop, they add one litre of engine oil into the engine and they say this is very normal. Does you guys have the same encounter or only me?

First 12k miles my X6 did not use enough oil causing the light to come on. Some do and some don't.

Yours sounds like it was not filled all the way to begin with.

Two weeks old doesn't say much - how many miles?

A quart during break-in may be a little high but not unheard of.

That converts to 553.02 miles US.

Using 1 quart in that short distance seems a little bit high.

Is that consistently 1qt/1500+/- ?
I notice my X6/35i is burning more (1 qt/2000 km) than winter time.
In June / July weather @ 20-28 oC & perhaps i'm driving more in sport mode w/ dry pavement.

I'm at 23K mi in my 35i and have never needed to add oil. Perhaps I should check but I'm counting on the engine computer to let me know if it needs oil.

Just added 1 liter after my first 10k km. Strange the computer showed "low level" ?!?! 1 liter less is low level?!!

thirsty engines.

I think engine oil helps cool the turbo chargers too.
BMW engines r all high performance type so engine oil is important.

Funny. This thread made me check my oil level again and now it says there is too much oil.

I had it changed a few months ago and checked it then and the reading was normal.

Did the dealer screw up up or is it the sensor?

Nothing like a good 'ol dipstick. EMP's don't affect 'em and neither does a messed up computer.

The day i picked mine up the was an oil warning, they drain all the oil and put back a quart at a time. They said the 7 series had same issue when it went dipstick-less> Most of the time mine is between min and max, it has told me to add a quart twice.
Not sure about the 35i but SA told me I had an oil over flow that would hold up to a quart, think this maybe from lessons learned with the 7 series. Other than the stupid ass running boards this is my other least favorite feature, if you are going to take away the dipstick make the damn sensor works right.

Over 11,000 miles, not a problem with the oil consumption yet.

That you know of. As we have demonstrated time after time, the iDrive display cannot be trusted.

I bet a dollar to a donut the oil level is fine and the sensor is broken since it registered fine after service.

When I take it in for service in a month or two I will have it replaced.

I realize eliminating the dipstick projects an image of technical sophistication, but why remove it from the engine. Has anyone reported a blown engine because of iDrive?

Garage List
After a short road trip, my iDrive gave me a low oil warning after shutting off the engine. When I started up my car again, I looked at the Service Info / Engine Oil Level screen. It said engine oil low, add 1 quart. I've been driving my X6 since October 2008 and it's at 9000 km. The first Scheduled Maintenance is at 10000 km. Is this normal?

Maintenance requirement is calibrated to how each car is driven & mileage every bmw is different.
