That's model year vs calendar year confusion.

Last time an M car changed its engine mid-production was in the 90s.

Ynguldyn, is it reasonable to expect F82 M4 LCI this year for MY2017 or next year for MY2018? Any possible upgrades besides CarPlay, Wireless Charging, Wifi Hotspot, 4G LTE, and maybe OLED lights like the M4 GTS has?

LCI is not this year. The new infotainment hardware is a part of the across-all-BMWs update happening this year, not related to any LCI. Whether the M4 LCI will get OLED, or what other things would show up on the LCI models is currently unknown.

Got it thanks! Waiting until next year anyway to order an F82 M4!

2 series

Sorry if you have already answered this. What changes are coming with the 228i/230i? Anything cosmetic?

Yes, I have. It's all in this and the other thread where you posted the same question.

So far, the 2 series is the only model without Adaptive Cruise Control. I don't know whether this question was posted before, but do you know when this important option is coming to 235i.

I think you mean Active Cruise Control. Adaptive is BMW's conventional-style speed controlling system.

ynguldyn - don't mean to sound as a broken record, but any ideas on whether we will get any of the 28i->30i and 35i->40i updates for F2x and F3x in the US this year?

I suspect these will all go off as planned for ROW, just like the 440i did. If they aren't coming to the US, it would be nice to be able to reflect that in the OP. Currently, the OP actually makes specific note that only US models are covered (which is fine - ROW has dozens of models we don't get here), but the dates - if things go as it looks like they might - are actually ROW dates and won't apply to the US.

Life cycle impulse - refresh of the model during its life aka face-lift.

How about CarPlay? Since the new 7 series already has touch screen.....will it be a software update or will it require new hardware? Thanks

IIRC, CarPlay will be hardware specific. There are already iOS and Android apps that provide the same (and more) features as CarPlay. I'm curious as to what the driver behind the desire behind it is for all the people wanting it.

The M4 is not getting OLEDs. Exclusive to the M4 GTS.
The next M will be the M5.

CarPlay requires iDrive 5.0, currently used in the 7, and now coming in MY2017 vehicles (sans touchscreen for lower end models).

The question is if the current hardware of the 7 series MY2016 or 17 already supports CarPlay and it's only matter of time that a software update will enable CarPlay features....

143 is for CarPlay, not iDrive 5.0 software, right?

The German M2 price-list already mentions Apple CarPlay preparation, specifying its availability during the second semester of 2016 (see option 6CP at page 19):
