The loss of power assist in braking could increase stopping distance and lead to a vehicle crash. Bmw will notify owners, and dealers will replace the brake vacuum line with one that contains a check valve, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in february 2013. Owners may call bmw at 1-800-525-7417 or email bmw at customerrelations@bmwusa.com. Owners may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov. |

My car was on the recall list, recall done june 2013 and BMW replaced the vacuum line only, they said the vacuum pump and booster are ok.
yesterday, while I was on highway and going to stop because of traffic, the car lost power in the brakes, and I had to literally step on the brake pedal to stop the car, luckily avoided a serious crash. went to BMW today. and they say this has nothing to do with the recall. and they are asking me to pay for the complete repair cost. (car got out of warrant 2 months back) and done 20,000 km since the recall. did anybody face this problem after the recall? did BMW fix it as part of the recall? I am really frustrated by this serious issue, this is my first BMW and I have never faced a brake failure on any other car, Honda , Mazda, KIA, VWs, even SEAT. How far can I go with BMW about this issue?, they don't care about my almost-happened crash, and I think they have to cover the repair of the brakes as it is part of the recall and BMW admits the brake system has a problem.

I had a transmission replaced and all I had to pay for was programming. The forked out the $8000 bill. My portion was $1000. Not bad at all considering I was out of warranty and the tranny have out. Let is know what they say. And good luck.

Hi Silentassasin,
I got my car today back from BMW , replaced brake booster, master cylinder, and vacuum line. original bill was 3000$, I ended up paying no cost, I spent some time debating with them about how this is considered as faulty design in first place, of course the seriousness of the situation (losing the brakes at high speed) was a big point I had. at the end I had my car fixed, Zero cost. I am happy !
