X6M is Sportscar of the Year 2010 in Autobild SportsCars readers vote

For the second consecutive year, the readers of the German Autobild publication "Autobild Sportscars" have chosen the BMW X6 M as the 'sportscar of the year' in the SUV category.

The X6M is powered by BMW's already famous twin-turbo twin-scroll V8 engine internally called S63. In the X6M, it offers as much as 555hp. The same engine will find its way in the F10 M5, yet in a further modified version.

Autobild Sportscars is a German car publication and a sub-brand of the weekly Autobild magazine. The 'Sportscars of the Year' awards were held for the 8th time in 2010. More than 68,000 readers participated picking their favourites out of 173 models, divided in 17 vehicle categories. The award ceremony took place during the 'Race Night' at the Essen Motor Show.

Hmmm, got me thinking...

The X6 M is nice, but Autobild categorized it as a SPORTSCAR???

Not performance SUV? High-performance SUV?

Good call. It is a great car. It is good for taking the kids, stroller and all. It is certainly not a utility vehicle. It is a car that sits high, has awful rear visibility and no room for the dog (chihuahuas excepted). So in that regard it is a sports car - fun to drive but impractical - just like my Z4.

For room yes, for handling, definately not. The X5 more top heavy than Dolly Parton. Just look at the design and you can tell which one would handle better. Not rocket science.

I would've voted for the Cayenne Turbo. It's so much lighter, and I'm pretty sure it pulls better numbers.

+1!

We usually don't hear the word "sportscar" in the the year 2000's. I blame my 80's / 90's mentality because whenever I hear the word "sportscar", I am thinking of the lotus esprit, ferrari F40/F50, old school 911 porshe's, lambo miura, etc.

I would never categorize the X6 M as a sportscar even in the SUV category.

Now, let me get this straight. There's an SUV category for sportscar of the year? How high are these people?!?

Sportscar= Sprite. Miata. Boxter. Z4.

X6M- Really fast SUV.

=/=

Don't forget this thing matches the time in the ring with the e46 M3. Pretty impressive for a 5200 pound vehicle no matter what it's called :-)

My signature says it all about the X5 M and X6 M.

"But, in a big, heavy 4 x 4 school bus? What's the point?"

To lap faster in the ring then the 330CI ZHP with 3 of my friends and a full load from Costco. Just playing

yeah that is very strange they would chose it over such (imo) a superior vehicle. In every way the cayenne is better (objectively and numbers wise)

Ive had two Cayenne Turbos, and they were great, but they still look like mommy cars with the SUV look

At least now with the X6M, its a sports coupe or so its called.

Its different looking and handles pretty well.

Its got more grunt than the Cayenne, but is slightly heavier. Despite the Cayenne 4,8 ltr vs 4,4ltr of the X6M

I like the X6M more and its cheaper by 25%

Cayennes have worse re sale value also and there are more of them around

I read somewhere the X6M only had 2000 produced for 2010 worldwide?

X6M Rocks

You'll never know until you own one. Im in NY and we just had a snow storm......Wheres YOUR car today? I know I was doing illegal donuts at targets when it was snowing . My brother with his M3 won't race me today or next month because road temps are too low for traction. His M3 is in the garage today because he needs to drive his kids to school in a minivan.

This SUV/SAV/Truck/Ugliness/thing is awesome. Whatever you call this thing, just make sure you don't race against it with your sports car. You'll loose that sports car feeling really quick.

Yes until you drive one, you just wont get it.
Its not like any other car/SA/SUV out there. For its size, it could be a lot more practical than it is. But thats not the point; get the X5 if you want practicality.
The X6M is meant to be its own breed and have its own identity. You either like it or you dont. But if you ever get the chance to drive one, you will understand why we love these cars/SAVs/SUVs.
AND.....it squashed Cayenne turbo. The Porsche barely beat the X6 5.0 around the track! And the only people around here I see in the Cayennes are the tennis moms. Some are hot/milf, but that doesnt mean I want to drive the same thing they are
