Who has repainted M Flares? Experience?

My X5M flares are wrecked. Previous owner never had it covered in clear film. I'm considering getting them painted and covered.

For those of you who have done it recently, did you repaint both rear doors as well? I'm seeing some bad chips there too. What did you pay? Anyway to blend it up without doing the entire door?

Here's my current state

Sub'd for interest as well.

C&D Autobody would be a shop to look at. Expensive but they will do the job right the first time

Yep C&D is the best. The annoying part is waiting for the paint to de-gas before applying clear film

I've had the flares painted and covered with film. Oddly, my doors don't show any wear and my flares weren't that bad even with sticky MPSS' constantly pummeling them with debris.

Cost me about $100 per side to get it all done. Drove around without them until the painted flares were ready to be covered with clear film and installed back on the vehicle. I did not get the running boards painted or covered, although I should have. Again, they didn't look real bad at the time so it was passable. You may want to consider doing yours at the same time.

Not sure what film they used but a year later the film has taken a pounding too. Hopefully the paint underneath is fine and new film just needs to be re-applied.

I hear that. I think what kills us in the NE is the salt on the road + cold weather making the paint chip easier.

Driving down a road that's freshly salted is like driving down a gravel road. It's frustrating

Yup, that'll do it. I know the feeling of having the radio off, driving down the road, and just hearing the tires punish the fenders. It sucks.

I don't see why a reputable shop wouldn't be able to blend the color and just spray the affected area. But keep in mind, blending can cost more than spraying the whole thing.

true, i guess it depends on whether they need to blend the rear quarter panel if they do the door as well...

I had a quote at a shop near me JUST for the flares they quoted $1,500. I laughed my way out of that shop. Headed to a buddy's place in the next few weeks.

HAHAHAHAAHA WTF??? I believe a quart of BMW paint is $400, or was when this shop did mine. You don't have to buy a whole quart, they said they can get it in ounces.

These cats saw the badge and thought they were gonna get paid. Bet they were salivating as soon as you pulled in.

i had a shop charge me around 400 per panel but the 2 side skirts would be considered one panel and 2 flares be one panel as well that includes blending the paint. they charged me 450 for the front bumper and 200 for the door moldings.

I guess it all depends on who you take it to. Although they did a good job painting the stuff i noticed very small imperfections that no one notices but me

I did mine. Removed four flares and two skirts, stripped, seal primed, then painted with PPG DBC, reinstalled with new clips. Perfect, as new results.

I can absolutely see that bill coming to $1000 for that level of work done by a higher end shop and good materials. Some owners are OK with average work coming from lower cost high volume shops. At the rate the value of these cars are dropping, it's understandable.

Did you end up finding a shop? I had a run in with a guard rail last night with all the sleet/ice on the parkway. I need to have he front bumper and front quarter panel replaced.

If I go thru insurance, the car is definitely going to C&D but I'm considering paying out of pockets if my insurance is going to sky rocket. I can only imagine what C&D will charge so I'm looking for a place that will be cheaper but still do the job well

Give Pro auto body in bogota, nj a try, they do the body work for Park ave BMW. They would blend in the new paint and it would look like factory. Back in 2008 they repainted and blend in my e46 m3 front bumpers, fender, hood and quarter panel do to rock chip. Below are some picture of the car 40k miles and 4 years later after they perform the Job. Ask for george, Alex send you.
I don't see him charging you more than $700 for that Job.

Finding a shop that does the repairs for a dealer can shave a bit off the total cost. They often have the paint on hand or can throw it in with a similar colored car, rather than having to order a one off
