I used to think the 20's were big but I not longer feel they are. I still think, overall, they're the best size wheel for the E70. However, there are times, from certain angles, they actually look small to me for the size/width of this vehicle, and I can see why many people go 21/22.

ha! you think so too about 21/22? I was thinking about that recently too. I think the style 215 21s fit the asthetics of car better.

Oh, I'm not saying that 20s look like crap, far from it.

But pothole damage (I live in Québec, which is like Manhattan, pothole-wise), unsprung weight and its effect on acceleration, steering feel and mileage are things I take into consideration.

Keep in mind, we HAVE to have winter tires here. It's the law, and would pretty much be an obligation even if it was legal not to mount them.

20'' winter tires are more rare, pricier, and less effective (sidewall stiffness). So you have to buy another set of wheels. 20'' all seasons are also pricier.

Either way, 19s would be my preferred choice.

As far as white trucks, they can and do look good sometimes, but I never really liked them for myself, and traditionally, they rust faster.

I'm pretty sure your comment about white vehicles rusting faster has been proven to be a myth. The argument was metallic paint would contribute to rusting but the fact that the metallic compound used is aluminum pretty much throws that theory out the window. I think it's just the fact that rust shows up easier on white paint that makes people believe this.

I think you're right. The end result is the same though. I prefer a darker car.

since you must do winter tires in Canada, you should buy a 2nd set of OEM 18s or 19s with dedicated winter tires. It'll be cheaper in the long run then mounting and dismounting twice a year. A set of 18s (wheels only) will run less than $700. So I'm saying, if you like the looks of the 20s go for them b/c you should get dedicated winter wheels and tires anyways to save on mounting costs which comes out to about $150 to $200 per trip. It'll pay off in about 2-3 years.

I'd second the above post from flying ace. A lot easier to just swap them out than having to dismount tires.

Oh, don't worry, that's what we do generally. A set of steelies of a smaller diameter for winter, and classier wheels for summer.

The only thing is, we still have potholes in the summer, and 20s are still heavy. :-/

Sorry to re-hash an old thread, but I figured it'd be better than starting a new one, as it pertains to the same subject.

A decent model has come up on the classifieds.

2011, grey on tan, sport + premium package, etc... The only downside is it has 129 000 miles. That would explain the 22 995$ CDN price (that's around 17 625$ USD). I emailed the seller, it's got a clean title and it's a non-smoker's car.

129 000 miles on a 11 year old car (which is what I currently have on my 2005 Legacy GT) and a 5 year old car is not the same thing, obviously.

I got a 2012 BMW X5 xDrive35D Deep Ocean Blue/Tan and I absolutely love it. Never had a diesel before so I wasn't sure when I got it... but OMG that torque is hard to beat!

Diesels can go a lot longer than a regular gas engine.... so I wouldn't worry about it too much as long as everything else is AOK with it

Yes, well we have too many cars and not enough garage space... Been trying to sell the M3 for awhile with no takers... I'm definitely not willing to part with the X5M and my wife doesn't want to give up her convertible either. Although the X5d makes the most sense to keep, it may be the first to go

Re: 20" and potholes.
A 335 sport package running 18" runflats put in bubbles and bent a wheel.
A X5 running 20" runflats which are much wider actually have more sidewall and are a lot softer than the 18"s on non- runflats
I don't worry about potholes nearly as much with the 20" runflats than 18"s non-runflats.
Yes, 20 winter tires in runflat don't exist. I'll get some Style 450 19" RF sq soon for those harsh Winters we get in Calif.
