What to buy? 06 VS 08 X5.

Let's say for all intensive purposes... both of these models have the same mileage, the same engine V6 Gas engine, the same features, the same available at the time packages (more or less) These are obviously two different generational E70's. So tell me... based on previous experiences, things you've read on here, and so forth. Which would be the better model to go with? Just to throw a little bit of a curve ball... because I know ya'll can handle it, Just to add a little flavor in the mix, the 06 is actually a 4.4i aka the V8. I don't really know about the track record on the V8's build by BMW. only the V6's from what I've always heard. I'm open to all comments, suggestions, and feedback that you can give me. This will be my first BMW purchase. NOT my first vehicle purchase

Thanks for your time in reading this and taking the time to respond.

V8 is a liability unless you are driving on Interstate most of the time

In fact I am. To and from work vehicle which is about a 30 minute commute one-way. Then we pile in my current vehicle and drive about 2 hours one-way to see family twice a month on average.

Could you further explain your meaning? Is it Fuel economy?

The more I look at them.. I'm leaning more towards the 08. Mainly due to the body style. I was always in love with the first generation for sure! Saw them as a kid and thought I want to own one of those one day! But the second generation looks more aerodynamic and some nice upgrades. Plus just being a couple of years newer even though they each have the same mileage. I fee like I'll get good service out of the 08. The X5 period. But I was mainly wondering if anyone knew something I didn't. Maybe the transmissions were bullet proof in the first gen or they were low maintenance or something like that. Maybe one of you owned a first generation and have also owned a second generation so you can attest to a comparison.

We all do it... Asking the people who drive them. Wanting to make a well informed and educated decision. Thanks for the comments thus far.

08 Is a I6 if I understood you, and the 06 is a v8? well considering that was the last model year of the e53, it should have all the problems ironed out, and that 4.4 engine wasn't bad at all. The 08 is the second model year so might have some problems that werent ironed out until the LCI. The 08 looks much newer, for me personally if it was about the long run id take the 06, short term up to 5 years or so I'd go with the 08. PS no offense but, please never make the "v6" mistake with bmw. Personally if i see someone say that especially when selling a car, it usually signals that they didn't take care of the car.

Great Advice Lviv777! I appreciate it. What you state makes sense. I can aquire some 06 models for fairly inexpensive. 08's being a little more. I"ll share my BMW as soon as I find one.
