Reduced Power Engine Malfunction
Has this happened to you? What was the cause/fix?
Just had new turbo and valve seal job at dealer. Warranty work. Less than 2 weeks later, I engage passing gear and car lurches and shakes violently. Warning / failure light comes on and feels like engine drops to very low power. Limp car to dealer. Not thrilled to say the least. Interesting timing. Not trusting dealer much so curious what I should look for. Thanks in advance. |

Is the search feature broken before creating another redundant thread on this subject, in turn spreading the information over multiple threads? Someone's created a "main" thread on this very subject in hopes that we can keep it all on one location to make finding solutions easier.

When that happened to me it was the vacuum pump. Good luck!

I didn't know common sense and doing research before asking a question was a moderator thing to do...isn't Google's whole existence based on asking questions yourself before asking others? Yes, it's a message board so you don't have any day as to who gets to chime in. and next time first so it's not a :-)

I'd recommend getting a BMW specific code reader and see what codes caused the engine light. For me, it was the Charge air pressure which could be due to my tune.

dealer said cause was cylinder misfires. they pulled a code and then moved plugs around is what they told me. so far no issues and the car actually feels a bit quicker. maybe the new turbos? fingers crossed.

I've got a Dell laptop with specific BMW software on it, but I can get much of the same codes read and cleared using a $5 eBay Bluetooth dongle and an app called Carista on my phone vs paying the stealership.

Plugs or coils? They are probably trying to see if the code follows the coil to eliminate one or the other...
