Pros vs Cons for vinyl?

I was thinking of going with Mtech front n rear bumpers because my OEM front n rears are kind of banged up from previous guy.

But than lately I been seeing a lot of nice vinyled out e90 from here and I was thinking of vinyl wrapping the car instead, to cover up the chipped bumper paint and to alter the look a bit.

Are there any pros n cons for vinyl?

I'm assuming you can just remove it wen ever you want to, but if you left it on the car for a few years, would it do anything to the actual paint underneath?

Also, how do you take care of the vinyl? I detail my car often (wash, dry, clay, sealant/wax) is that the same way you would wash vinyl?

Honestly in my opinion the price you would pay for a could vinyl wrap would be more than buying your mtech bumpers and getting them painted. The only cons I've read about vinyl are he rock chips. Not sure if you can clay or wax it. But if I were you would I would invest in mtech.

I was looking up prices for whole car wrap, it seems like the normal price around my area is anywhere from 1700-2000$ for the whole car.

Mtech bumper would run me 550$ and $350 for paint for just the front lol.

I wouldnt mind going with the mtech option, also wouldnt mind going vinyl option. I hate being so indecisive lol.

lol oh man I'm currently in the same situation. Want to go with a mtech rear, but want to do vinyl at the same time. I think I'm going to go Mtech and then vinyl the whole car myself lol.

LOL, man... tough choice. I'm thinking of going mtech rear and adding the splitters for the OEM front bumpers, than vinyl the car after. to save money Im gona leave the mtech rear unpainted lol and just wrap the entire car with some shade of black lol

I vote for vinyl. You can change up the look of the car so much more drastically than just getting the mtech bumpers. I don't think you are to wax vinyl. I just wash mine as usual but was told that I need to dry the vinyl right away.

I see no cons for vinyl except labor/time intensive and costs more $$$ than other solutions.

My car is vinyled I drove it all winter. What I noticed is that when the temperatures get cold the vinyl becomes "brittle", so by the end of the winter the front bumper was all chipped up. However, there were only a couple chips on the hood, and when I took the vinyl off the front bumper to re-wrap, the paint was flawless, no chips. So I guess you could say that vinyl wrapping is a thinner version of 3M. If you like the looks and can afford to re-wrap the bumper after winters, its a great option for cosmetics with some paint protection pros

Yes, as a matter of fact... Today, my car was backed against a concrete wall. It saved my paint from being scratched.
But, it also serves as a paint protection film. Great for long term care.

I'm sure everyone will have their opinion but...

Pros: Cheaper than paint, less labor time and easier to revert back to original color.

Cons: Color is not as deep, cannot be waxed or buffed, does bubble and does not have a good shine IMHO.

I have my window trim and center console wrapped. From several feet away it looks fine but up close there is a big difference!

Unless wrap is matte then it's all win win.....vinyl will keep improving that's for sure.

Btw there are products that act like wax and etc for vinyl material I saw it on some wrappers instgram page talking about it.

from past experience....

PRO
- vinyl is thick enough to help prevent alot of rock chips to your paint
its like a condom

- massive difference, massive choice of colors

-if you dont like, rip it off

CON
- after some time, the edges or corners may start bubbling up... which gets realllllll annoying.

try to wrap the panel in 1 piece! minimize bubbling later in future

you can check my build, before and after my wrap.

If your bumpers have rock chips in it right now, most likely the vinyl will not hide those. Imagine painting your bumper without repairing the rock chips first. They will still be there and visible.

Just throwing some options out there, another alternative to vinyl is plasti-dipping. I'm pretty sure it's the cheaper or similar to wrapping the car.

wraps to me, 90% of the time, is just like wallpaper. I don't want wall paper on my walls I want paint. If you DIY I guess it's fine because it's easy to change but I would never pay the price most places are asking for wrap jobs.

Only a problem with bad vinyl and/or improper installation.
