WTB X5M exhaust with modified stock exhaust mod

Looking for an X5M exhaust with the modified stock exhaust mod done. I suppose I could buy a second stock exhaust and do the mod on it, but if someone has one with the mod already done, that'd be great!

I want a second exhaust because I am not sure how loud this will be, and I want the ability to quickly undo it if (replace back to stock one) it causes any issues. I wake up early for work, and my wife says she hears me when I turn on my car with the regular stock exhaust, so I'm hoping this wont wake up the neighbors!

Thanks and let me know if anyone has anything available!

I'm in the process of doing this to my stock exhaust, as it's now a spare setup.
Would ship, but will be prohibitively expensive from AU.

Depending on how badly you'd like to keep the stock looking stock from the exterior, it's can be quite a fiddly job, as the internal components were assembled first, and then enclosed with the large skin.

I tied my exhaust valves open with wire and it does the job. Can't think of cold starts any louder as I already probably wake up my neighbors. Try it as a first mod and see what you think!

I did this for about a year before I chopped off the muffler section altogether.
First thing I noticed after going straight through was improved upper RPM response, as well as a throaty note, and crackles and pops during downshift.

Both mufflers in the factory setup are just perforated hotdogs, with the outer (normal driving) being longer and wider, consequently having a larger absorption area to reduce output. Doing the mod allows you to drive around with the M-enabled sound, and switch to straight-through in M-mode (if retaining existing vacuum-based valves).

There's a whole thread on it over here > http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=973042

I went down the route of pursuing this myself. There are shops that won't touch it altogether due to the time intensive process of the surgery with BMW's renowned hard steel, and those who would do it but quoted upwards of $800 for the mod. I decided against it altogether and just keep the valves open.

Agree - wouldn't get a shop to do it, as it's a bit of a PITA, and they could gouge on man hours.
