X5m efficient mode !?

hello,

im alittle sick and tired of the fuel consumption ... im used to paying for gas for large german v8s but this x5m is just crazy ... lol anyway...ive been trying to find a way to save gas.

I changed it from sport to efficient under the "m" mode. im assuming that's how to do it ?

my question is that do I have to keep driving in m mode with the efficient setting to save gas ?

I know its kinda dumb but I cant figure it out. thanks in advance !

Dude car is THIRSTY!!!!!

I've accepted it. A nice Sunday morning of spirited driving will run you 3/4 of a tank. I just don't understand how a 4.4L motor can do that. The M113 was rough. The M156 was a bit worse. But this stupid 4.4L beats them all.

Is it because the car weighs a lot? The turbos? Wtf?

Did you read the manual? "Efficient, comfortable, minimal fuel consumption." That is what the manual states. How effective it is is debateable... Like a hybrid chevy suburban. Probably more placebo than real world mileage increases.

hey, I did .... my question is ... I can only set the efficient mode under the M mode ... which opens the second exhaust and other stuff ... so what im asking is that should I always drive in M mode to use efficient mode ?

because when I first start the car its not in M mode....

I've found the best fuel mileage in the non-M mode. When in M-mode the truck holds for laters shifts and makes more use of engine breaking through downshifts.

Curious, what kind of mileage do you get?

i can barely get 400km out of a full tank, driving normally. If I'm accelerating from stop lights often, that drops significantly.

right... but how do you use the efficient mode without using m mode ?

I get around 400km per tank... and I put in 94s only and it has a big tank..

Setting the cruise going under 70 I can get about 20MPG on the highway but that never happens ... last trip I averaged around 100 or so with 14mpg on a round trip totaling around 2.5k miles.

Giving their is only two modes Efficient/Power in the m mode options efficient likely just runs the standard non power mode which reduces boost by a few pounds.

Only real way to save gas is to have the selector in "P"

Jebus, if I averaged 400km/half tank on my diesel, I'm pissed. 400km/tank?

You shouldn't need to program the M button, since it starts off in normal mode. Stay away from power mode, keep out of sport shifting mode, keep it under 65-70 and be smart about accelerating. That's the best you're going to get and it'll still be bad. No M car is going to be focused on mpg, especially a 5300 lb brick. I'm just glad I average 13.6 mpg, instead of the 9 I got in my M6. That said, I drive exclusively in M power mode and sport shifting except on the highway. I get over 450 km/tank, so you should be able to get better, unless you're all city miles.

I get 450km from my old c63 ... 6.2 n/a with a slight smaller gas tank ... I was ok on paying that ..

on my x5m I get 400km if im lucky ... and I pay over $100 cad per tank using 94 oct ... I drive so chilled in the x5 is not even funny ..I love the truck don't get me wrong ...

I'm pretty sure you're in efficiency mode when you start your truck. Hence, Normal=Efficiency mode and M=Power mode. I know that you can program efficiency with M mode but it's useless, unless you just want to drive in normal/efficiency mode with stiffer suspension/steering...which some may and is what you are doing now...

This is exactly why I sacrificed performance and traded in the 4.8 for the 35d. With a 50 mile daily commute and 12mpg, I was at the pump far more often than I wanted.

I bought the car to haul the kids because I didn't want an minivan (gasp!) and refuse to drive an Escalade/Suburban/Yukon/Expedition/Etc. If I really want performance I'll go buy an M CAR not an SAV.

As it's been stated efficiency seeing in M mode is just the normal (non M mode) power setting. Leave it in normal mode, keep your feet light.

thanks bro, are you 100% sure ? because it feels like it up shifts itself faster and not as responsive then regular non M mode..

but ill test it out for sure.

Wow, 14mpg? Fun if it's a second car, but not your main mode of transport...

Yes that's because in M mode the revs are held a little higher and it will downshift sooner as well. But the power is the same...
