Windshield replacement question...
Hey all, just picked up a new to us '10 X5 35D for the Mrs. CPO from my local dealer. We did a plate transfer so we could just drive off the lot etc and we noticed a crack / chip in the wind shield a short while later while driving (it was raining when we picked it up so it did not immediately jump out at us). I let me CA know immediately and he said that they would take care of it.
So we dropped that car off the other day and picked it up the next morning with a new windshield. I just noticed that the replacement does not have a BMW sticker on it like every other BMW windshield I have ever seen, but instead some other company info on it. Is this normal for a dealer replaced windshield? Do you only get a BMW windshield from the factory? I naturally (I thought anyway) that by having this done by the dealer that I would get a new factory windshield that would be marked just like the old one. Anyone have any thoughts or experience on this before I bitch to my CA? Thanks in advance.

If you are uncomfortable you should raise the query in any case. The car is not new and they are probably within their rights to replace the part with a non genuine part as long as it was fit for purpose. If they guarantee the part then there is nothing to worry about. Dealer's should use genuine parts but clearly these guys are pocketing the difference to suit their bottom line.

I had mine replaced with non-BMW sticker. The independent shop said the non-BMW sticker windshield manufacturer actually used to be a vendor for BMW windshields, but it's someone else now. Non-BMW sticker windshields are a couple hundred cheaper than BMW branded. Otherwise they are the same - rain sensors, etc.

Non BMW or BMW stamped, either way it doesnt mean one has better quality over the other. I had my under 5k mile/6 month old M3 windshield replaced at the dealership under USAA insurance. I got the car back, windshield had ripples in it as if water was flowing down it... Had the BMW stamp on it... So if youre happy with the clarity in the glass, Id let it go. Chances are you may have to replace it again later on anyway.
