saved by auto high beam + Laser Interceptor

wife was driving the x5m at night with auto highbeam. after approaching a down hill on the parkway she noticed a dark LEO in the middle of the median, 2 seconds later laser got picked up on my LI and STI-R.

everything worked flawlessly... kinda pissed i don't have auto highbeams on the m3..

on another note the LI has saved us no less than 3 times this past weekend.

btw i switched to Bell STi Magnum about 3 months ago after having 2 diff v1 since 2000

What role did the highbeam assist play in this?

presumably the sensor noticed that there was vehicle ahead and adjusted from hi beam to low beam. That would let any driver know that the sensor thinks you're headed toward a vehicle. And when the lazer alarm goes off you've already begun breaking and prevented the LEO from locking on at a higher speed.

I would think the HBA works when light shines back at the sensor-at least mine seems to function that way-another headlight or very bright reflection turns off the high beams. I cant see how a dark object would cause it to function, since he stated that the LEO was in an unlit vehicle. Is it possible the laser hit the sensor and turned it off?

Or possibly the reflective paint from the LEO vehicle.

it just gave me further visibility , which I normally woulndt have had since I don't normally used highbeam since you have to constantly switch on/off.

Yeah, that's right around the corner from my house (not for long). They're there all the time on the concrete median as you go down the hill.

I usually am approaching that turn going Northbound at high speed (for a 50 MPG zone) and need to brake hard, as usually 50% of the time there is a cop there.
