drove X6 on weekend
Test drove the car (friend has it) - and I gotta say.. OMG. What a car!!! you guys who bought it despite the wierd looks clrealy know your BMWs - this is such a drivers machine. I want one badly. This is such an honest car (doesnt pretend to be an offroader or practical - nice) - and the way it handles and delivers power is stunning. I've driven a lot of cars in life (worked in car dealership, been around cars for a while) - and you tend to forget cars, but this thing I remember..

The nice thing about the "weird" look as you mention is that BMW does not make regular cars, they always offer something different, not like other brands that just make boring cars......not to mention the driving experience, I have had the luck to drive many many car types, from Ferraris to Land Cruisers, and since I bought my first BMW (2002 E46 M3) that was the last time I looked into another brand, to enjoy an Audi or a Mercedes you have to spend more than $150,000 to get an exotic one, in BMW you start enjoying the driving almost from any model.

When I hit the corners my wife (who drives a e92) is amazed because she says you don't even feel like you were in that sharp of a corner. Last edited by dmlgc; 06-10-2009 at 11:02 AM.. |

My last cars were Lexus, but I drove many SUV when deciding what was next. The X6 35i kills the Ceyene 6 cyclinder and comes very close to the 8. I love the looks, get alot of people looking at the car. A guy in the gas station was walking around it, said this car lloks like it goin fast when it is standing still. I is nice to love a car again.

it's not as nimble as E90, that's a given, but i was just impressed by how well it drove for the car its size and wieght, the compromises they made were hardly visible and the set up of the chassis was sick.. I drove X5 before and this is so noticeably better to drive even though its' based on same platform.

The 5 series is more comfortable and the handeling is better!! The x6 was also louder than my 5 series!! I have also an x5 3.0d from 2004 and i have to say it's not so good!! I know it handles and goes very well for a suv but still ... |

You need to compare the 535xi to the X6. Not a 2 wheel drive 5. I have owned the 3/5/6 series. X6 does fine IMO. Most notable, it is a little noiser, but rides smoother than any BMW I have driven except the X5 and 7 series.

I have an e 60 and it was a big difference in smoothness in favour of 5 series!! I dont have runflats on my car!! Yes the x6 is the best in what it is built for, but for me the 5 series is supreme!! |

Weird?!?!? I wonder why you wanted to drive a weird lookin car in the first place. Just because it has the BMW plate on it? Strange. .I personally never felt a tickle in my groin to drive a weird looking car. I don't know about others, but my X6 is not weird. .it's my Panzer and love it every single shiny or gloomy day.

I drove an X6 3.5 when they first came out last year was fast and cornered well, but couple of days ago I test drove the 5.0. OMG! That thing is a freak of an SUV, I'm sorry SAV.
It was kinda surreal because I'm used to my daily driver which is a pathfinder, so I didn't want to push it too hard. But the SA was really cool we went on a series of loops on Allen parkway in Houston, each loop he told me to "scare myself" and to "stop braking". The first 2 loops I felt as if I was in my pathfinder so I couldn't get myself to push it. But finally the SA told me to "man up" (all his words not mine!). So the last 2 loops I treated the car like my M Roadster and really pushed it, Must have been going 80-90mph on sweeping loops and that car was planted. WOW! It had the adaptive drive and the active steering, so I guess it made a difference. Its not my M Roadster, but a car that large has no business cornering like that haha.. I can't imagine what the X6M would be like. |

You're correct the way this car handles is ridiculously for it's size. |

I understand, and assume you will replace those with non-RFT's once they are gone.

Actually no, I go to some out of the way places so I like the idea I can drive on them until I get back to civilization. If one tire goes the spare ( it came with one) can handle that but if two go different story. I know what are the odds of two going, slim.
