Engine Random Knock

I am new owner of a BMW X5 2001 3.0i. (Few Months) Bad shimey and rattle in the front end and parked for a few weeks until the parts arrived for rebuild. Went well and all is good with that but after driving a few days i noticed a random knock coming from the engine(front top). The knock sounds much like the videos posted on bad vanos but it is more random. Any thoughts?

My wife's 328i does something similar. More so when it's cold and parked at an angle. I'd be interested to know what yours sounds like. My dealer says it's "normal."

P.S. Nice to see a diesel guy on here.
