2012 x6 50i in production!

Hey guys,

Just saw the updated news on the MyBMW website. Entered production as of today and I'm located in NY, so I figure it should be here by next weekend.

Was thinking of doing the performance center delivery on the 22nd or 23rd and then having the car sent up to my dealer since its a lease. -- any feedback?

also anything in particular I should be pumped for?

Production

I am assuming that you are week 48. I was told by my dealer that my 5.0i was week 48 also. Excuse my ignorance but do you have a vin or something that you are able to track your vehicle. I have mybmw which just shows my 335i.

Just curious - not that my looking at the production schedule will speed up my x6 delivery or anything

I did the perf center pick up. It was an awesome experience!! Can't even begin to tell you how great it is. Driving all type of ///M cars around track, make sure you ask them for the "off road" test drive. The best is the factory tour ,IMO. Have fun
And watch out for troopers all around SC. They lay in wait knowing u are picking up a BMW.

mrhk91 - thanks. I'm assuming mine will be a similar time table then as it's just going down the road to Columbia SC.

just talked to the dealer today again. turns out he's had the vin for a while now, just forgot to mention it until today since i had to get some paper work ready in advanced. when did you order yours? i ordered mine about beginning of october or so, forget the exact date now.

which options did you get by the way? just wondering, i was considering getting the sport package, active steering but decided last minute not to. went with the tech, premium, cold weather, and sound. think i might regret not going with the sport though. might just do an aftermarket shadow line and replace the angel's with LUX's

I ordered mine last week of October with the following:

5.0 Black sapphire with oyster interior
Sport activity package with 20" rims (didn't like the active steering or firm ride)
Tech
Premium
Cold weather
Black kidney grills
3 rear seats (was told to do it for resale - uugh)
Performance kit with tune upgrade (will be done by dealer)
Running boards
BMW apps and adapter

I think that's it, apart from euro style reflectors which I'll stick on myself. I think I'm going to regret not getting the premium sound but too late now. I was also thinking about adding the roof rails as I will be taking my son snow boarding and our gear fills the car up (awkward even in my RRS last year). Everyone is very negative about them here and after looking at pics with/without, I'm not sure. It would just be nice to be able to pack the two boards up top.

I think we're going to love them

Um, unless the Performance Center is really slow, you have missed your chance at it. It needed to be coordinated with my production and I had to find a date that was avail. I could be wrong or things might have changed - but I booked mine about 7 weeks out.

Also, if you pick up the car there, then you need to pay to have it shipped to the dealer (funny thing about PCD, you still pay a destination charge, and in your case you would pay it TWICE if you did not drive the car home).

Another option is to do the performance center experience which is available to anyone within one year of buying a BMW. I believe you have to pay something for this (and of course fly yourself home). But if you are interested in the whole thing and want to avoid putting miles on your car, it is the way to go.

I'm not sure that makes sense? The sport package has the adaptive drive which makes the ride smoother not firmer. The 20s withOUT the adaptive drive would be the worst ride of all the X6s? Was your experience different?

I remember your point doug-999. When I was looking, I went in an x6 without the adaptive drive and I think it was an x5m with, to see the difference. I didn't like it, so didn't order it and now I'm wondering about the set up in the two cars. Having said that I've order'd the 20's and now the car is at the dealer awaiting the perf kit etc, so it's too late now.

It is what it is and I'll have to live with it.

Well I'm pretty sure that no matter how it rides, you will be used to it shortly Oh and it still will ride better than your 335 I bet

mrhk91 I'm surprised your's isn't on the road already. Mine got to the dealer Friday and they called me yesterday. I'll find out when I can pick it up tomorrow, because they forgot to order the performance kit which has to be fitted/painted along with the grills, iPhone adapter and pedals. I may get the engine tune done as well but I cannot get any comments on this forum.

Anyone with a BMW engine tune for the extra 40bhp ?

TIA

I just checked my paper work. My order went in Oct 28th, 2011 with a production schedule of week 48 (last week). It was at the dealer in SC by the Friday of the same week it was built - just down the road from the manufacturer so no surprise. The dealer should have been able to give you the production schedule almost immediately. Are you ordering anything special or non standard - e.g. composition or something

Only avail on the 2008-2010. Once the 8 speed auto came about they pulled it. Rumor has it it may return. But I'm pretty sure you can't do it (unless you want to go Dinan).

doug_999 - wealth of information . I was talking to the dealer today and they said that the perf kit will not be in to Friday and then next week they will paint and fit so I won't get the car until next Thursday.

Anyway I mentioned getting the extra 40bhp and he was to call me back tomorrow with the info - I guess he won't if it's not available. Anyhow I don't think I'll bother with the Dinan kit. Spend that much and you should have bought an M - me thinks.

Saw this post last night and felt I should comment on it -in the morning.

To be honest, I thought it was bull that they gave us the //M to tear around the track in. Yea it was fun, but the Perf Center Delivery (PCD) is about learning what YOUR car can do and unless you are picking up the M, it turns into learning about what the car you did not buy can do.

Arrived

I was driving home from work SC to NC and I received an unexpected email saying my X6 was ready for delivery (expected Dec 1). Crap day weather wise with a cold front moving thru. Anyway I diverted to the dealer where they were a little premature as the perf kit had been painted but not yet installed, neither had the grills, pedals or other stuff. Just as well because i decided to skip the side skirts and go with the front bumper and rear diffuser, keeping the aluminum running boards. I like it!

Rather than drive back 200 miles to the dealer, I waited the 6 hours and drove home in s..t weather but oh what a ride. First kit fitted by the dealer and they loved it - so did I. But more than the perf kit, was the engine note of that 5.0

I will post some pics when the sun starts shining so you can see the perf kit on black sapphire with the aluminum running boards. I'm going to fit the euro spec clear reflectors as well. Anyone know how ??

I did compare the X6 to my dearly departed RRS of 6 years (never thought I could get emotional ) I will say the RRS was well finished and refined - felt very sure footed a bit like an old shoe, but I'm sure this is just the X6 being new to me. All that said and ..........oooooh the sound of that exhaust and the rush of that passing acceleration. The new woman is mighty fine

She's a bit dirty after the drive home, but I still love her. Maybe I like dirty girls

Looks amazing with the performance kit painted in black... nice choice. Making me reconsider getting that upgrade done to mine. I remember when BMW started offering that upgrade, I was interested in going for it, but for the money they were asking for at the time, I decided to hold off and wait to get the ///M model in 2013 or 2014. Congrats on the new toy! Enjoy and stay safe
