Installation of Roof Rails on X6
I want to have a set of roof rails installed on my X6. Planning a cross country trip from Vegas to Omaha with 2 standard poodles and need to place our luggage somewhere other than in back. I have been getting conflicting information from several sources and need some input from you guys.
Has anyone installed roof rails, base support and roof box on their X6? If so, did the dealer install the rails? How long did it take them to do the job? I understand they have to remove the headliner from the cabin....is this true? It pisses me off that BMW has all these pictures of X6 with roof rails and roof boxes, but you can't get it that way from the factory. It looks like they want to hit you up for a couple of grand extra for someone to tear the roof apart and possibly damage something in the process. |

If you only need the roofrack on the odd occasion, why spend several grand on the kit?
You guys must have the equivalent of one of these over there: http://www.handiworld.com/default-home.asp |

Thule makes a fit kit for the X6 that's the best of both worlds - custom fit, but totally removable when you don't want it there
I'm having the rails and box fitted for ski season today - I'll post pics if you like... -Alistair |

Permanent install
I had the rails installed at the dealer when i bought it and love the look. The crossbars go on easily. I think the whole process took 2 or 3 hours for the original install. Not sure about what was removed to do it.
