MPG @ 9gl-9.7gl

My 2013 X5M is only getting between 9-9.7 miles per gallon and I usually do mostly city driving and do so in M mode. I know that this is a ton of gas to be consuming even for a large powerful truck. Any ideas what could be causing this that wouldn't trigger a dummy light of some kind??

I have a 2012 X5 50i. I get right around 9 MPG. Funny, my R63 gets 12 MPG.

They just have horrible fuel economy.

How are your driving habits, do you suffer from lead foot syndrome at all?

I've noticed city driving will do terrible things for MPG, I usually see under 10 but I only driving in M mode with paddles or sport mode.

On the highway if I set cruise control under 75 I can reach 18-20 MPG in the standard noob mode but that isn't very fun and usually doesn't last long, so I typically get around 14 mpg highway.

I've been trying to figure this out as well so I'm interested if you ever find a remedy that doesn't involve driving slower.

I'm always driving in M mode and I def. have my moments where at the very least I feel like I'm NASCAR approved. I by no means drive balls out all the time or even close to that. I honestly push it maybe 15% of the time and thats a generous number. I just don't see how most people average around 13 mpg and I'm getting 9 mpg. I feel like thats a significant difference but maybe my lead foot is a little heavier then I had originally thought.

My last vehicle was a Jeep SRT8 that was stroked to a 7.2L and had a 88mm Precision Turbo. I drove that thing way harder and was getting between 7-8 mpg so I just don't see how I'm getting 9 out of the X5M?!

that is about right and will vary based on tire pressure, fuel quality, roads and driving style but if you're getting anywhere between 9-11mpg in city/traffic then you're right in the area of common mpg. i loaded it up with over 900lbs of paver stones and i got 6mpg. quite amusing.

I get around 12 city with mild/moderate driving habits. My dash average was around 15 with highway included. I've noticed an increase in MPG after injectors. Getting 16.6 currently but haven't been driving real aggressive of late. Have you had injectors replaced?

I bought the truck off of a lease from a BMW dealership and it already had the injectors replaced.

when I picked mine up about 4 moths ago the average was at 9.4 (I don't know anything about previous owner but I assume the car was either sitting for some time or driven pretty hard), since then I slowly improved my ratio in about a week from the date I picked it up, now my ration is always between 15.2-15.3, my driving is 75% highway and I don't push it too much, unless somebody gets on my nerves) (like that guy on MB AMG another day )
I haven't done injectors yet, I might soon but I consider 15.2 is very descent considering the engine, I would defiantly not complain if I'll get close to 17 after the replacement!

Nothing wrong with the X5d, just wouldn't give up the M b/c of the MPG.

My 50i is all city driving - I still get the quoted 14. 9 seems quite low for a 50i.

I get around 16 in day-to-day driving. I was pleasantly surprised when I went for a 300 mile drive and saw this about 120 miles into it.

that's really impressive consumption for M, I always have 15.3 but I never made that long of a trip yet, I'm actually planning one next month for about the same distance one way, did u make it on one tank or you have to fill it up somewhere in the middle?
I was hoping to get little more miles per gallon after replacing my injectors but I was told that my car doesn't need new injectors, I'm on my way to get my car tonight and hopefully I'll get more explanations there, I assume my injectors had most recent indexes.

I wish that I could tell you why my mpg is good

I have catless dps, and a AA 2+ tune, stock exhaust. I just had the injectors replaced so I was curious to see what kind of mpg I would get. I've heard that it's possible to see an improvement with the new injectors - I think so, maybe 1-1.5 over the highway. My d-t-d hasn't seen anything conclusive.

I didn't do it all on a single tank but I'm sure I could have no problems.

I have the same setup besides the stock exhaust, i have straight pipes...after new injectors my mpg is getting even worse, i'm averaging between 6-7.2mpg!!! i re-did my tune and was able to gain a few more mpg(12)...couple days later it dropped back down to 7mpg

As of now the new injectors have given me even worse mpg, black soot all over the back of the truck, 2 black soot marks on my garage wall...i give up lol

Are you guys driving in M mode or wife mode?
