Hi Guys,

I feel kind of strange posting an “Audi story” on a BMW board. But I think we all have an open mind here, and Audi’s Museum is an interesting place to go visit. My heart is in Muenchen with BMW, though.

Shortly after taking delivery of my 135i, I went to visit Audi’s Forum in Ingolstadt. That was back in February of this year. The main reason I went was because Audi was holding a special exhibit of the Silver Arrow cars. I have always been a bog fan of those cars.

In German these cars are known as: Silberpfeile. Audi borrowed some cars from MB Museum and from a Belgium museum collections. They had NINE Auto Union Silberpfeile in one place! Plus three MB silver arrow cars!! I had to go!!! Normally Audi only has ONE of the top speed record (Silberpfeile) cars on display at the museum and ONE open wheeled racer on display. Needless to say… I was really happy I went.

One thing I like about Audi’s museum is you go inside an elevator and as it goes from the bottom lobby floor up to the top floor of the museum… the walls of the elevator flash back in time. You go back to the 1930’s time and watch a short film INSIDE of the elevator. Then the doors open up and all you see is cars from that time period. I also like Audi has many of their NSU and DKW motorcycles on display too. The highlight of the museum is Rosemeyer’s top speed record car though.

As you go thru the museum you descend the floors. As you descend you get closer and closer to today’s Audi’s. And like most museums… you find yourself ending up in the gift shop! Lol Audi also has a nice restraint next door and IF you keep walking thru there… you come to the new car delivery center. It is quite small compared to BMW Welt. Audi only has about eighty cars on display here.

One of the more unusual display’s is Audi’s rotisserie machine. Cars rotate up and around this over sized chicken rotisserie.

BMW really have THE BEST new car pickup experience in Germany. Plus BMW’s museum is really quite nice & modern. Audi’s Forum is about ten years old now and it is starting to show. But it is still a worth while stop over.

So… here are my pics.

Enjoy,
Dackel

This virtual tour was pretty interesting...

http://www.audi.de/de/brand/de/unter..._tour/NSU.html

NOTE: the above video used lots of shots from/of the R8 and that car is built in Neckarsulm plant. Neckarsulm builds ALL of Audi’s aluminum body cars; R8, A8, A1. Neckarsulm is near Sinhsiem, where the A81 meets the A6 autobahn.

Ingolstadt is just off the A9, a quick drive (60 minutes) North of Munich (Muenchen). Ingolstadt builds the A3, A4, A5, A6 model lines. And also all the S and RS models are built in Ingolstadt thru Quattro GmbH.

BTW… Audi also have a small museum in Neckarsulm. And they have a classic car museum in Zwickau, in the former DDR. But even in Zwickau they don’t have any Silver Arrows! It is more of a Horch and DKW and Trabbant (Trabby museum. Zwickau does do a good job of recreating the past glory of the automobile. They have a complete old gas stion built in doors and old cobble stone streets inside the museum there. It definitely has an old car flavor to it in Zwickau.

Onto the Audi Museum in Ingolstadt…

The Audi Musuem…

Audi Bank across the street…

The factory and to the right the new car pickup point.

And old Horch…

Gas pedal in the MIDDLE!!! K = Kupplung = Clutch. B = Bremsem = Brakes.

A very detailed model of the Silver Arrow car…

Audi’s rotisserie machine…

Someone has a sense of humor! :”)

Car from the film iRobot…

Race cars…

Short wheelbase Quattro

And… what I came to see…

MB silver arrow…

The ramp out/in…

Mini rotisserie for model cars…

New car pickup center upstairs...

Customer cars…

Got a spare 8,000 euros for one of these toys?

Outside…

A5 sportback four door…

One last look at the museum…

Nice, thanks for posting. Silberpfeil is more Mercedes than Audi, but well...
Anyway, very interesting, Audi Museum is much more interesting than Audi Dealer.

Looks like Audi has a special exhibit on old racer cars: Bentely's, Porsche's, Audi's ect... form all forms of racing. Also they have quite a few motorcycles (NSU) on display downstairs. Here are a few pics taken from their facebook page...
