First fault - power to driver door switches
Well I've just suffered my my first fault with my 35i. All the power window and mirror controls have stopped working. Ambient lighting is still working on the door, so it is not all power that had become disconnected, but non of the switches work and the green window lock light does not work either. Looks like a trip to the dealership is needed....

bummer hope your trip to the dealer works out better than my "check engine light" experience.

Sounds like possibly a blown fuse?

Yeah - all OK. I think it is likely to be a loose connector as the green window lock light flickered a couple of times yesterday and then came back on again. That's when I got that first 'uh-oh' feeling.... but then it seemed OK again for the rest of the day. Then today it was not working at all - although the passenger can still wind their window up and down from their control.
I'll call the dealer tomorrow and see what they say - will advise as to how things go. Cheers, Anteater |

So.... problem was caused by a leak in the driver door allowing water to get into the door and short out the cables inside. Cable eventually split and needed replacing - as well as door sealing where the water was getting in. Probably good that it was caught this way before the water damaged the fabric of the door itself and caused paint / rust issues.

However, if you look to the left or right of the gasket depending on the side of the car you are on closest to the rear fenders, there is only plastic molding connected to the body. You would think water would get in there since the gasket is no where near it. They must have some kind of protection for this we cannot see.

The area highlighted in red. When you look at your truck, check the molding against the side fenders. Seems like an issue.
But maybe it is taken care of another way. I have not check an X3/5 to see how they are designed.

Rear Widow Drains
I asked about this before i ordered my car back in April. I'm pretty sure the is a provision for draining the water out just below your red circle/where the hatch opening gets wider. If u have time, get a jug of water & pour it down the side channel, where h2o from back window would drain down to & see if it comes out under the car. I know mercedes have hidden drain around their windows. But i've not tested this on my x6 yet.
Post results if anyone has a chance to do this. |
