Been towed (towing an X5)

I recently was towed due to a parking ban resulting from snow clearing. I'm put off as the towing company did not exercise any care when towing my X5.

The owners manual indicates the vehicle can not be towed on either the front wheels or the back wheels, but can only be hauled on a flat bed. The proper way to get the vehicle on the flat bed deck is to put the vehicle into neutral and then winched it up using the tow hooks that screw into the bumper.

However, the towing company decided to drag my X5 onto the flat deck, while the vehicle was still in park and using the front suspension components as tow hooks. I'm concerned there may be damage to the suspension components (generally they are extremely strong in the plane of motion they are designed for but quite fragile when used as tow hooks).

Has anybody had any experience or knowledge on this topic?

I know this guy whose had his AWD Subaru towed twice. Both times they tried to drag it and destroyed the transmission. He was stuck replacing it himself as the tow company wasn't liable. Hopefully you have better luck than him if your car did get damaged. Let us know how it goes, I've always been paranoid about some dumb ass tow company trying to tow my AWD cars by two wheels. It seems they don't care so I'm sure it happens.

If you didn't sign anything yet, get a lawyer.

it shocks me that hooking up to teh front suspension is a practice that is still being done. this should be illegal. On WHAT Vehicle is this actually safe to do? Almost every recent owners manual I've read across brands warn against this.
