Anyone buying tires this week ... CRAZY DEAL!!

Title is a little goofy, but I stumbled on this when looking for some tire options.

Everyone loves Conti Extreme Contact DWS for non-runflat and the Nitto Motivo is trying to gain some traction by adding our staggered sizes in Y speed rating. So, it expires this week, but I just ordered a set of 315/35 and 275/40/20 Nitto Motivo tires from Discount Tire Direct on eBay for $696 for the entire set!! I went back and forth, but I'm going to try them for that price.

Then I will add the Discount Tire/America's Tire road hazard for $112.50 (to be exact). Lifetime replacement policy on this. Cheap enough to do it.

If anyone is interested, post and I'll add more details how to get the deal. From what I have heard/read, this tire should be pretty good solution for the X5 staggered as long as you're not tracking.

On eBay:

seller is discounttiredirect (same as retail Discount Tire stores, except online). Until midnight March 16 they offer free shipping and for every $400 purchase you can use code CMOTORS0314 and get $100 discount. Code can be used up to 3 times per eBay user id.

So, I bought the front tires and got $100 off. Then the rear tires for $100 off. Then call the customer service to buy the road hazard policy that is servicable at any Discount Tire or Americas Tire retail store. Free shipping via UPS Ground. No sales tax in my state even though they have retail stores.

As for Conti DWS, they have the rears in stock for $570 (I think), so it would be $470 for the rear pair. No sales tax (except a few states) and free shipping.

Like I wrote before, I got a full set of staggered tires with a reputable seller for under $700 delivered. The treadwear warranty from Nitto is really good also even with staggered setup.

Very nice, thanks! Looks like theyre gonna charge me tax but i guess i can live with that...So where do you put the discount code in? I want to make sure it works for me but I'm afraid to hit buy it now as it might commit me.

I'm crazy - about to buy tires for a truck I don't even have.

Hit the "add to cart" button for the tires, then click checkout. There will be a spot to add promo code. You don't pay until you go through a few screens.

To get free shipping, no tax, and $100 for every $400 (25%) is pretty fair I'd say.

And something else I didn't realize until I called them tonight..

Discount Tire has a 30 satisfaction guarantee on any tires. You buy, and don't like, you return for a refund. Period.

I was amazed they offer this, but the guy said it's part of their marketing program.

3yrs is nothing. Tires can last greater than 6yrs.

It really depends on the tire type.

If you're going with all-seasons you are probably ok for now, but if they're summers I'd run far, far away.

I bought ContiSport Contact 5P for my M3 which are Max Performance Summer Tires. I had no clue about tire manufacture dates till my installer pulled me up when I brought them to him to put on. He says "hey man where you get these tires from because they're sort of old", then said, "you got these on sale somewhere didnt you", I said yeah, was a great deal too! Then he proceeded on to explain to about manufacuturing dates saying the tires I purchased were from a place that was clearing out their inventory saying I couldnt return them to anybody who sells tires because legit tire companies try to keep their tires no more than 2 yrs old at the max, and anything older they try to get rid of to clear their inventory for newer ones.

Like I said the deal is great for an uneducated buyer but hey you live and you learn

And that guy wanted to sell you some tires right?.. So how old were they exactly? Tire age is something to consider but 2-3 years old stored properly from a reputable dealer or manufacturer isn't anything to worry about.

So what is your personal cutoff age for buying new summer tires?

I've personally seen cracks in 2 different sets (from 2 different top tier brands) that have manufacture dates of <3 years.

Properly stored or not, the absolute worst thing for tires is to have them sit for long periods of time, as the natural oils in the rubber aren't being evenly distributed, which makes them much more prone to premature cracking.

Again, we're talking W/Y rated summer tires here, which have much harder compounds than an S rated tire you'd put on a minivan.

Sitting on a shelf for a few years is nothing compared to a car sitting in a garage with the tires full of air not being driven for a few years. There is a huge difference.

You're free to think what you want, but there's a reason he was able to get his tires at a huge discount.

Just like there's a reason expired milk is half price at the grocery store.

one consideration is how long you will own the tires. if the tire is 3 years old at purchase, but you drive your car a lot and know you won't get more than 2 years out of the tires, then its no big deal, as the tire will still be younger than a brand new tire that you will have on your vehicle for 6 years if you are one of those folks who rarely drives it. In fact, the tire carcass is likely to be in better shape on the spent 5 year old tire, as it spent less time in the elements and less time carrying air pressure and the weight of the vehicle than the babied 6 year old tire.

If you are going to own that tire for 6 years, i wouldn't be looking at discounted tires. But if you are going to drive the tread off those tires, then I say go ahead and look at those bargains, but understand and make sure you know the manufacture date of the tires you will be buying.

If anybody is looking for a set of OEM 20" Dunlop SportMaxx RFTs with about 500-600 miles on them I have a set here for sale. Don't be afraid to make offers, I really want to find them a new home shortly.
