Tire question (again!!).RFT or Spare?

I just purchased a 2009 4.6 X drive with 20" rims wearing almost new Toyo tires. The tires are NOT RFT.
I have always run RFT on prior BMW's that came without a spareso the question is, should I change all 4 for RFT's (I read the Dunlops were noisy) and maybe get some trade for the Toyo OR keep the Toyo and get the spare wheel kit (for just in case) or just get a emergency kit (slime and a compressor or something).
If I get the spare I will probably not go with RFT in the future which would be a tad cheaper in the long run.

Thoughts?

I have non-RFT ... and keep a Slime emergency kit with a compressor. About $50 at Walmart.

I'd get a spare kit, but I'd skip the smile kit, or if you carry it, use it as a last resort. I am switching to non RFT's and I do like I do in all my vehicles, I carry a plug kit and compressor. If I was to put anything insoe to do what Slime does, It would be Ride On, a lot better product and it doesn't cause damage, don't think it even will bother the TMPS but not positive on that. I actually run it all the time on my Motorcycles.

If you like performance, then a non-rft is the way to go. If you prefer convenience of a RFT and piece of mind, well there is your amswer!.

If your wife will drive it: RFT
If you will drive it: non-RFT

Ah, I already have a compressor and plugs I carry when on long motorcycle rides so I'll put these in the X5 and add a bottle of Ride On.

The missus drives it occasionally but we have AAA so she is covered per se.

Thanks all.

Run-Flats are problematic on so many fronts..weight, ride quality, noise with brands/models available for the X5s, etc, etc. I have RFTs with 8/32nds, and I am changing them out next weekend...can't take it anymore. Get good roadside coverage and call it a day. My old RS4 leveraged that concept, as does the 1M...no spare, no RFTs, and a worthless bottle of goo to give the impression they tried. Since most tire damage translates to a slow leak, just tow if more catastrophic.

Same here. Can't stand the noise on RFT. There was a point where I was even embarrassed to let my friends ride on my X5M because of tire noise. My insurance has road side assistance - I'd rather wait 45mins, even two hours (if I had a flat tire) than drive a noisy tire.

Amen. The thing that is most prevalent to me is ride quality and weight (not to discredit noise, I loathe that as well). Car manufacturers go through Herculean efforts to shed unsprung weight...just take a look at the rotors of an Audi RS5. Yet, willingly slapping on 10+ lbs of incremental tire weight at each corner of "The Ultimate Driving Machine" is mind boggling. Shed RFTs, and watch your BMW finally drive like a BMW.
