Airbag recalls

Wondering if anyone has been getting new airbags yet. Need to visit the BMW dealer for a driveshaft recall and I'm hoping to get both done at once. The dealer is 200miles for me.

Thanks!

Last I heard, there is still a shortage and prioritizing high humidity states first. According to the repair letter, updated 9/16/16

http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/conte...eoverride=true

Q When are the repair parts expected to be available?
A limited number of final remedy desiccated driver’s front air bags started to arrive in August 2016.

Thanks for the info. Since my dealer is in Minneapolis I assume it will be a while.

I called BMW NA last week and insisted that the replacement airbag be sent to my local stealership without delay. I received a message the next day that it is being sent, and that I can expect a call shortly to set up an appointment.

The dealers are fixing their used car inventories first. It is just a temp fix with a new igniter of the same design as what we have now. Once the final new igniter design is approved, they will be changed a second time. This is for the drivers side. I am not sure what is going on with the passenger side.

I got my new airbag igniter about 3 months ago. i am in Calif. I was given a loaner and told not to drive the X5, maybe that put a rush on it.

Georgia, 2013, already done, but was the vehicle of a BMW employee at the time. Is the driveshaft an actual recall? I need to check on that.

Just called BMW NA - they submitted a request for replacement to be shipped to my dealer. Supposedly takes 2 weeks to ship. Let's see how long this really takes.

Nothing personal but why is BMW fixing a 2013 in NY when they still have much older models in FL to do? This completely contradicts what the letter says.

You are correct. It does contradict the letter. But, after hearing others having success by contacting BMW NA, I gave it a shot. Have you tried calling?

I emailed BMW NA. I think they are ordering my parts now. They appear to be following the squeaky wheel approach with this.

Just got a call from my dealer - airbag replacement arrived. Bringing the car in tomorrow. I just called them 3 days ago so I'm pretty pleasantly surprised with the quick turnaround.
