Got a Stage 2 tune? Willing to spend $5 and help me out?

So I'm running a Stage 2 tune and gutted stock downpipes. I'm then using an eBay $5 Bluetooth dongle to feed information to a small Android tablet (idea adapted from the N55 boards) and the Torque app to monitor vitals. Even after the tune, I'm still only running 17.4psi per the app, but supposedly I should be pushing 19+ so I'm curious if it's a sensor reading issue, some setting within the app or my tuner missed something.

Nevertheless the dongle is a handy tool for anyone because it'll read cool vitals and the Carista app (free - $20) can read and clear codes as well as coding since Torque doesn't do anything but read only.

Check out this item I found on eBay: http://pages.ebay.com/motors/link/?n...033146&alt=web

Nice tablet stand. Which one did you get?

Right now I use Torque and Carly for BMW. For Torque, I could only get 7-10 psi boost reading with JB3 installed. I thought it should get more (max of 13 psi), but I think with the piggyback, the car doesn't read the extra boost. I don't know how to set up the Carly app to read boost.

This is the mount I got, cost under $8:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/390830086550...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Adjustable Car Air Vent Mount Holder for 7-10inch iPad Mini 2/4/5 Samsung Tablet

I'm mostly curious what boost level others are showing on the Torque app running a Stage 2 tune since I'm still only showing 17.4psi, which is stock boost. With you running a JB3, I don't know exactly what that does for you since I gave up on the JB*/BCM combo after BMS said they don't support us, so you running a JB3 is news to me.

i've got a wifi OBD reader and it hooks up to my iPhone to clear codes, etc. I'm using the DashCMD app. I have not been able to find how to log/show my boost. If you can find out how to set up DashCMD so it displays the data you need, I can then tell you how much boost I get.

I haven't hard wired it yet, for now it's just a $50 7" N7Pro tablet from Amazon, the $8 mount and $5 dongle. Once I hardwire it, I'll likely create a thread about it.

With Carista (it's my buddy from Bulgaria who owns the company) and and the dongle I have, yes, I've coded :-) Windows up and down from fob, mirrors fold when locking/unlocking and I don't even remember what else I've done. He's working with me on DVD in motion as well.

Sweet!, Just picked one up from the link above, will be sure to try out the Carista app! Been looking to pick one up myself for around 50-60 bucks local but skeptical to if it will even work properly.

Bump. Replaced a low pressure fuel line with an updated version (13537622850, Fuel feed line), cracked vacuum line (11157595188, Connecting line) and the actual ///M logo'd spark plugs...reduced power warning went away for about 3 days. I'm still curious as to what PSI people are getting on a tune using the same app as I am so I can make sure there are no variables.

I removed my JB3 tune and pushed it a few times. Have been consistently getting 7-8 psi max boost with my N55 motor depending on the weather. I've been getting similar readings with the JB3. The calculated HP and TQ numbers are also very similar with and without the tune.... I wonder if it is something wrong with my tune lol

This may be a shot in the dark ...but...

I noticed you had muffler delete...when I redid the exhaust on the truck I kept getting 'engine mailfunction, reduced power' warning under full load until I blocked off the two tiny hoses that feed the muffler valves.

Haven't had any issues since.

I remember a Top Gear episode where they had the M6 in Australia and Jeremy mentioned something along the lines of that the engine will adjust itself so that it always gets its advertised power, whether it's 20* or 120*. My tuner, Lfundregen (sp?) said much of the same thing, yet I've been driving in 20* - 60* temps as of late and the boost level always tops out at 17.4 PSI. Even if I have a boost leak since I haven't confirmed it the muffler exhaust vacuum lines have been plugged correctly, the fact that the number never changes or at least gets worse like a like usually would is what prompted me to create this thread.

I haven't done the muffler delete yet, I've just got all the stuff sitting in my garage to do so. What has been done is that the PO had at one point removed and reinstalled the factory muffler, but never reconnected the vacuum lines running to the muffler valves. I have yet to dig around in the trunk to verify if they're in fact plugged correctly, but my BMW mechanic buddy says that the vacuum system back there doesn't connect directly to the engine itself, so it shouldn't be affecting my overall boost numbers. On a side note, if you could tell me how to take apart the area the check the vacuum lines, it'd be greatly appreciated. I've been under the truck and nothing is dangling loosely, so that means I need to dig around in the trunk itself...best I've determined so far is that I'll have to remove the battery cover and the lines should be somewhere buried under the drivers side hatch panels.

Getting good data from the X5/6M seems to be hard. I've tried several wifi dongle based apps (iPhone) and none gave accurate boost data. There is a difference in how it is reported. BMW says our software in the MSD 85.1 ECU uses the same format as the N63 ECU MSD 80 but boost appears to be in a different format.

My AWRON gauge is the only thing I've found that reads the correct boost but it doesn't datalog.

I highly recommend BMWlogger that can be found here:
http://**************.com/BMWLogger-2

It's the only decent logger out there for our trucks and it's only 99 dollars with the cable. However the boost is not correct on it for our ECU. I've written him and he said that he's looking at it.

You shouldn't have to dig around the trunk, the vacuum lines are right next to the exhaust tips. Who ever took your muffler off may have either tucked them away or taken them off completely. I'll take a picture tomorrow morning of what mine look like.

Like I said, I had no trouble with the truck for the 7 months I had it. 5 minutes after leaving the shop, "engine mailfunction, reduced power." As soon as I plugged the lines problem went away. It was the logical first place to check since that was the only change between the truck being fine and messing up. I did notice that under regular driving I had no issues, I would only get the message under hard acceleration (definite power loss). Restart the truck, message gone...rinse and repeat.

Your buddy might be right, but this is what happened to me. I encourage anyone having the same symptoms to check those lines, even for cracks. Could save you some money troubleshooting.

On a side note, I've read somewhere (N54Tech, I think) that a piggy back tune doesn't register on the DME and numbers read from ODBII will read as stock. You however have a flash tune so I suppose that doesn't apply.

Ok, I hope these pics work. Forgive me for my handwriting, I think it's the first time I've used the pen in the Note5, ever.

I would make sure you have the lines that attach to the valves, may be tucked away or removed completely.

Are you running a tune that ups the boost and what's your gauge reading?

I've got a BMW laptop that has INPA, Rheingold, etc with multiple heads for different cars (OBDII to USB is used on the E70) but I've no clue how to use it. I did notice when flashing my tune that the ECU showed up weird in the menus.

Yeah, I've got no lines showing, so I'd assumed I'd have to dig around in the trunk to find things further. I noticed the exhaust tips the day I bought it, but it wasn't until later I saw the welding done for the mufflers.

The lines will be on the other side of your muffler, right by/above the tips. Notice that they hang down right before the tips clear the bumper to the outside.
