2013 X5 5.0 M-sport package wheels/tires
I am trying to get all season tires on OEM rims on my X5 5.0 M-sport package.
I called my BMW service and was told that I CAN NOT use 275/50/19 all around because my OEM set up is different (285/45/19 back and 255/50/19 front). He said it would screw with traction control and AWD system. How accurate is that? They also refused to mount non run flat tires on my truck. Has anyone attempted to do this? I'd appreciate the feedback and advice on getting a proper tire size. |

Ask him to put that in writing and have him show you where BMW advises against it.
A square set up with 275/50/19's will work just fine. The key is that the diameter of all the tires are the same. Your speedometer my be off slightly. Stock 19 inch wheel sizes with the sport package are 255/50/19 or 255/50/19 front and 285/45/19 rear. When you buy your tires check on these main things: - Load rating - tire diameter (critical if going with a non standard size) - width - you can go wider or narrower; but, there are limits based on rim width and clearance in the wheel well. He just wants to seel you a $5500 winter tire package. |

Thank you for feedback.
Smyles, for 275/50/19 he said it will be too big for the front, since OEM is 255. Brian, my rim size in rear is 9.5. The recommended size for that tire (conti dws 255) is 7-9in. I called tire rack and they said 255 won't fit the rear rim. Im really confused by this whole thing. Dealer basically said nothing of that size exists to fit my rims and the only way to to get a new set of wheels and tires. I really don't want that since it's a lease and i don't have 5k to throw away. |

I'm starting to side with the dealer on this one. I checked tire rack and they do not sell an all season or winter tire for the 19" M Sport wheels. That's really a bummer.
Do you have a discount tire nearby? If it was my time and money, I'd swing by and see if they can help at all. My approach might be to see if a 265/50/19 all around would work. One size wider on the fronts is nothing - they'll fit. Running a 265 on the rear might be an issue - that's two sizes narrower than stock. The tire would easily mount to the wheel and ride just fine, but I would definitely be concerned with the looks of it. One way or another if you try to run a square setup on those wheels you are going to have a visual contrast - the fronts are going to have squared shoulders, and the rear tire's shoulders are going to stretch inward. It might end up looking pretty bad. |

Update,
I tried every combo I could on Tirerack and the only staggered All-Season setup I could create for your wheels is the Hankook Ventus AS RH07. They stock them in 255/50/19 and 285/45/19. They don't show up as a replacement tire for the X5 when you set up the vehicle when you start searching, but I don't see why the would not work since they are the correct sizing. My guess is that they are not a high performance SUV tire - they are an SUV all season, but aren't specified for high performance applications, which I'm guessing is how Tirerack filters the tires for the XDrive50i |

Thank you tennis.
I saw these and found another brand kumho solus kl21 which also fits. However, both have terrible reviews. I guess they're my only options at this point. What about getting different brands for front and rear? Has anyone heard of that? Has anyone dealt with this problem with this exact model 2013 x5 5.0 M-package? |

You'd be amazed at how much variability there is in real tire sizing as compared to their printed widths and ratios. |

My suggestion is to look in the classified ads in the various X5 boards for a set of used wheels with either all-season or snow tires. I looked into this and found some decent deals last year but ended up just buying a winter package from my dealer for @$2600. When you go to turn in your X5 at the end of lease BMW requires that you return it with the correct size run flat tires.

I would probably try and find some used wheels with tires on Craigslist if I were in your situation.

That is a good piece of information. In that case, OP should definitely keep the factory run flats on the 19" M Sports and pick up a set of winters, like those on CL above. Added bonus is you'll be able to sell them again yourself whenever you return the vehicle.

I have no affiliation with this add, but here is a set for sale for probably less than what you would pay for tires plus install.
http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=793553 The other benefit is that when you go to return your X5 you can sell these wheels to recover most of the cost.

When I bought my 11 M Sport (with oem M 19s) it came with 255/50/19 Bridgestone Duelers all around. It was a CPO vehicle and the tires don't appear at all stretched on the rear, so I think running 255s (at least this particular tire) all around should be fine.
With that said, I am looking to switch to a dedicated summer/winter set just due to the fact that I would prefer a wider, staggered setup.
