My next car is a (gasp!) DOMESTIC!

After 20 years of loyal BMW ownership I am buying my first domestic vehicle.

Now that Tesla announced the dual motor (AWD) Model S I am smitten! I can't wait to try it out when it arrives end of December. 691 hp 0-60 in 3.2s and all the tech I could ask for (well nearly all - will miss my heads-up display). Got every option available and went with black exterior with the light grey and black interior to keep it classy but with some contrast.

Will sell 2 of my 3 BMWs but keep the 2013 X5 for now.

I'm very excited about a new vehicle - something lacking from my last few purchases. Will post a review when I get it - maybe right from the in-car browser on the 17" screen!

Personally I would like a domestic too, a Saab 97x Aero, with the big block GM and drivetrain for cheap big HP... Plus I like it over the Tbss bodystyle.

I've owned two domestic vehicles (a Ford SUV and a Dodge truck) and cannot say I have issues with either. The Dodge was a 2500 diesel and that thing was a beast. Had it for 10 years/100K miles and never skipped a beat. Retained its value also: bought it for $34K OTD brand new and sold it for $23K ten year later.

Will do! I've seen some Teslas with aftermarket wheels and they look amazing!

I've ordered the 21" turbine wheels in silver for summer (like the picture in the first post) and the same wheels in black for winter with Pirelli Sottozero on them.

The wait is just as bad as waiting for my M3 was - need a support group...

Another strange thing... This is the first time I've ever purchased a car I've never driven - no test drive, just an Internet order. The process so far has been strange but wonderful.

Honestly if the M5 came with AWD this year, I probably would have gone that route - would like to hear from others who have considered the "daily performance" characteristics of both cars. Pretty stoked to try out an electric rocket (so stealth). May have to keep my old E46 M3 just so I get some engine noise therapy from time to time LOL!

So I went for a test drive yesterday in a Model S P85 and had my mind blown!

I've owned an E92 M3 but have never driven a Ferrari or any other exotics. This test drive was the biggest automotive thrill I have ever experienced! The torque is absolutely unbelievable - for 2 reasons; 1. It is instantaneous (no turbo lag, no waiting for mechanical systems to go into action, etc) and 2. At 30 mph you hit the throttle and the car just takes off! Any speed it just goes!

Can't wait!!

I'm envious, there are no plans to bring Tesla down this way yet. I think even Australia is still waiting. Such a shame, it's a beautiful car.
