2012 bmw x5 35d steering recall.

There are many things that could go wrong on the average new car--they are incredibly complex, computerized machines. But the possibility of steering failure isn't one most of us would like to contemplate. That's unfortunately the issue with the 2012 BMW X5.

Affecting xDrive35d models built between March 21 and May 19, 2011, the recall covers a faulty component from a supplier that could cause the belt tensioner to develop cracks, eventually failing. If that happens, power steering assistance would be lost, potentially causing a crash.

BMW has a fixed component ready for replacement, however, and the recall/repair process will begin this month. Owners of affected vehicles can bring their SUVs in for a fix at BMW dealers free of charge.

If you own one a 2012 X5 xDrive35d, you can contact the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 (reference recall campaign number 11V332000) or BWM customer relations at 1-800-525-7417 or via email at customerrelations@bmwusa.com.

I thought the 2012 Diesel weren't available yet.

Yea. The MY is incorrect, but the recall reference is accurate.
