Dead Pixle
Dead Pixels….not the rock band
I love my 135i…I really do…it’s a nice car she makes me smile…even though she has mental issues. Ok yeah she drinks a half a quart of full synthetic motor oil every 5k miles…which is when I do my oil changes. And yeah every now and then…for some odd reason she throws a code regarding a corner light…which requires the car to be turned on and off for it to be cleared…hell even the seat as a little tear in the cheep thin fake leather….all that I can deal with. But now I’m freaking scared out of my boxer briefs…..I’m looking at my beautiful I drive navigation screen and all along the bottom the pixels are failing…going white…..and here and there on the screen there is a dead pixel or two. And here is why I’m scared….did a google search for dying pixels on Idrive…I got nothing….. Here is the background, the car is a 2009, it has 75k miles on it, she lives in a garage, I take her to the car wash every other day. I clean the inside of the car carefully….i let the car warm up before I drive off…..i park in the shade and use a sun shake to keep her inside cool in the summer….so WTF is going on with this screen? And is it covered under CPO? I have a sinking feeling….the answer may be a no. And that means I’m looking at a solid $1k repair bill? Thoughts? |

-10?
Well the car is at BMW. First i called BMW USA and they were very confused why a car with only 70k miles was having this issue. Answered a few questions about how the car was stored, in a garage or on the street...and if there was any water damage. they then hooked me up with my local BMW shop and well she's there now. They are even confused. It really looks like the pixles are failing from the bottom up and to make matters even stranger...it looks worse from the passanger side than the driver side. It's all very odd....makes you wonder what QA controlls they had in China when they built this screen? Other than none! |

They took my info and said "Wow that's never happend before...how odd."
And they will be calling me back. Here are my thoughts, the car has 74k miles on it. the cost is $3k for a new screen...odds are they are going to offer to fix it at a 50% discount....shit! |

OK got a call from BMW.
They said they had never seen this before....so if you guys are having this problem you are not talking about it....they said they would cover 50% of the cost and what not. So it may be a $1k fix for a new screen...... I don't know....if i fix it it will be fixed...but it's $1,500....for a little screen.....and i just finished paying off my credit card debt and am not looking forward to adding more to it....shit what to do what to do? Thoughts? |
