New Owner, Question about Downpipes

Hey guys and girls,

I just got a new (to me at least) 2013 X5M. I've already ordered a couple parts, including the Velos Tune.

I want to get some downpipes. I've read that cat less downpipes can have a gas smell to them. I'd like to avoid that. What are my options for downpipes with high flow cats? Is their performance relatively close to catless?

Performance wise not as good as catless but if you don't want gas smell high flow cats is the way to go. Had both options by the way. GL.

Thanks,

On a scale of 1-10, 1 being stock and 10 being catless, how would you rank the highflow cats as far as performance?

Anytime you remove a restriction on a turbocharged car, you get improved spool, better throttle response, a better top end, etc. All benefits. Whether it's catless or a high-flow cat, they are better than stock period. Is it noticeable between the two, absolutely.

But these gains do normalize within a couple of days. Meaning on back to back testing spool improves when going catted to catless. I do this yearly to smog one of my cars. But within a couple days, I forget all about it.

As for the smell, it's not that bad at all. This of course is subjective. I've been driving catless cars of some type for more than 10yrs. Under most situations you don't notice anything. But exhaust leaks can leak into the cabin, or a breeze that blows exhaust back towards your windows or vents.

You will notice, is it crazy bad no but if you have a wife and kids too high flow cats which can also produce a exhaust smell
