How do I close the armrest/phone storage lid?

Just got me a 2000 X5 4.4. I have owned one before. I accidently pressed the little plastic button on the front end of the armrest and it turns out there is the old phone connected, it's an old one of course. But when I tried to close it down it won't hold. The button is pressed in and won't come up. I tried with a screw driver to bring the latch up but it won't. I don't use the phone and don't care about it. Maybe I can get some M3 double-sided tape and just put some in there and glue it to the top lid?
