spare tire question for x5m owners

Hello, I am new to the site and a fairly new x5m owner. Iam just curious because to day i was surfing around online and i saw the same truck as mine (2012 x5m) and it had a spare tire where mine has a "locking compartment". Does anyone know why my truck doesnt have a spare and said truck does? I understand my truck has the run flats on it stock, but i have 22' 3 piece adv1's,and run flats are not available or an option for me. just wondering if anyone has any knowledge about this or if other fellow owners could tell me if they have a "storage compartment" or a spare? thanks and happy new year to all.

The spare tire is a $150 option when the car is ordered/built. If it comes with a spare the same compartment is used to hold the spare minus the carpet in the non spare vehicle. You can order a spare wheel and tire from parts and tire rack then you'll need a lug wrench and jack. I got the wheel from parts and tire from tirerack for about $350.

mswaz, can you tell me which wheel & tire you ordered from TireRack for spare? Thinking to get rid of the runflat tires. Thanks.

Mine was only total about $500. I bought the rim through my dealer for $350, they matched the lowest online price I found, I believe it was getbmwparts.com, then the tire from tire rack. You have to call and get the quote as the spare tire is not listed online. Sorry I dont have the tire size off the top of my head and im not driving my X5M right now but it was a 19" 155 something something Continental. It was about $130 then mounting was $15 at the dealer. I had the jack and lug wrench from my previous X5 but I suppose you could pick this up at Sears for $50 tops. Well worth the saftey net considering the price of the truck.

Finally got the spare wheel & emergency kit put together. Got them from bmw of silverspring shipped to my door for less_than_half of quote from dealer here. Wheel fits perfectly in the compartment. Thank you everyone for your help on the info of the wheel.
