LCI tail light upgrade

When swapping pre-LCI tail lights with LCI lights, are there any wiring harnesses needed or just the light assemblies?

From what I understand, it's plug-and-play with respect to wiring.

However, the vehicle will need to be coded to recognize and operate the new lights correctly.

if the coding is done to make it compatible with LCI tails, will future firmware updates wipe out the coding and give the error codes?
