X5 rear hatch

The rear hatch opens from a button near the radio. However, it does not close with the same button. Is is broke? Or do you need to program it to shut with the same button. You can shut it with the button. Any advice would be appreciated.

It can be done through coding. I have had done this for few of my friend's X5
