someone hit my car in work parking lot, just wanted a guestimate on costs

Hey guys,

So some asshole hit my car at work on monday and my driver side rear door took a bit of a hit. I have the pictures here..

My insurance deductible is 1k so I'm assuming it's going to go well over that if I need a new door skin (probably)

Any way it goes under 1k? Otherwise I may just have a BMW paint shop do it and get a loaner from them.

Save yourself some coin and see what a non-BMW body shop thinks.

I'm going to get estimates as well from other places, but my guess is it will be over 1k.

I got quotes for repainting rear bumper, rear wheel arches and rockers because of rock chips. Dealer and indy both quoted $1800.

a "BMW Paint Shop" is a private 3rd party shop anyways.

It's simply a business relationship between your local dealer and that shop, they are by no means "official".

I would search for the best available shop to get it done right. They along with most other shops simply receives the paint mix codes from BMW.

Yep.. Basically. I really do think it was at work as I would have noticed any other day. Heading down to security desk afterwards to see if we can pinpoint it.

I am not sure on how your insurance works in NY but if it was a hit and run get a police report and file it under the comprehensive of the insurance. My deductible for comp is 100 and it does not go against your insurance rates.

Well I actually have my insurance set up through South Carolina so not sure what I would be needing to do. I already filed a report with security at work. But not sure on the police report deal? Would it be too late is the question.

Might be too late for the Police Report. I had a Corvette which someone hit in my driveway and ran off. No Police Report and filed a Comprehensive hit and run with the insurance company, 5K of damage with a $100 deductible.
Six months later our neighbor had a party and I had parked the Vette on the street so I could take it to work in the AM. Some clown backed into the clam shell hood and cracked the fiberglass. I got a Police Report on this one and filed again on comprehensive, $6500 in repairs, $100 deductible and no increase in the cost of insurance because of either hit and run.
This was through USAA insurance.
Might just ask your insurance agent what the criteria is for the hit and run.

Thanks for that! I will look into it. USAA is probably better than State Farm though.

No hit and run coverage on my car, only if I was able to get their license plate and go after them..

Will start looking for quotes, maybe just maybe I can keep the door and they can repair as is.
