3.5i N55-what's next after Stge1 JB?

"11" 3.5i N55 with Stage1 JB. What would be the next performance Mod, In your opinion?

downpipes, exhaust, intake... Though a Cobb Accessport gives more flexibility to tune for these mods and extract maximum power. There are a lot of Cobb authorized ProTuners in the US and east coast vs only one tuner for the JB tuner where you can only stick within their confines of what defines a "stage x."

Then on to suspension like a KW v3 setup and better alignment.

So what is a stage2 in detail? And can a stock N55 handle what it?
From reading: Using a intake is really for added noise. Any opinions?

A Stage 1/2/3/4/5 is whatever the company wants to make it. It's a set of parts that overtime as you add new parts may bump you into the next "stage."

There is no standard to this, it's all marketing.

Someone here on this board, with an X6 N55 engine probably has quite possibly the most modified N55 for an X5/X6. new intercooler, headers, exhaust, e85 tune, etc; all tuned with an AccessPort I believe.

Then again, there isn't much further you can go with that...

I read somewhere that the stock transmission in the 35i can only handle 332 ft lb of torque, which is why the M performance package ups the torque to the 332 limit.

This guy's dyno results will say otherwise!

over 500ft/lbs. But on e85 I think.

He defends the number, but over in the 135i world no one is pushing that much torque compared to HP on either an N54 or N55, 6-speed or DCT.

I believe the statement that the DCT is torque-limited, again, on what I've seen on the 1-series forum. It's probably why the diesels still use the 6-speed auto.

Oh I know, I called him on it, and got an ass chewing from him.
I couldn't find that thread where that happened, but don't care either.

That said, the e70/N55 platform is limited in terms of what is available, and what can be done custom.

intake, catless downpipes and tunes are available.
intercooler and exhaust will probably require some fabrication.

There is a rebuilt N55 turbo available with some larger wheels and porting, but it's way too costly for the gains. Then you'll need a custom tune with that too...

Can you make gains, absolutely. But there is a fiscal wall you hit when you want to go further... It's better to start with a solid platform like the V8 than the 6cyl. Or something with a better aftermarket like the 1/3/5 series cars.
