Memory Seating

The memory seating positions on my key are different than the memory positions on my wife's key. Is this normal?

Example, my memory setting is #1 and she is #2. If I use my key to disarm the car and turn on the ignition, the seat, steering and mirrors adjust to my setting (#1). I drive the car to my friend's house and stay. She gets in the driver seat, presses and hold memory #2 but it doesn't adjust to her position. The steering wheel moves inward a little and stops. The seat and mirrors don't move at all. She turns off the ignition and takes out my key and puts in her key. Turns on the ignition, press and hold #2 and the seat, steering and mirrors adjust to her setting. Is that normal?

Also, why did BMW make it so we have to press and hold down the memory button until it finishes adjusting to your setting? On my previous Acura, I only needed to press it once and everything adjusted automatically.

Yes, the memory follows by the key. You only need to press it once without the engine running, I guess its for safety reason

The way I believe it works is each key gets two memory positions.

BMW always plays the safe route. Imagine a 6'4" person getting into an Acura and pressing the button programmed by a 5'2" lady while driving. Scrunch city. Or vice versa and all of a sudden the lady can't reach the pedals. Not good.

Ok, thanks for clarifying guys. I understand the safety route they're going with but a simple fix would be to activate memory programmed buttons only when the vehicle is in 'park'. This is the way Acura worked.

One more thing, on a different subject. Does the active headlights only work when turning right? I noticed it doesn't move when I turn left. Is this normal? Maybe another safety feature to avoid blinding oncoming traffic? Can someone verify on their car? Thanks.

Not normal, it should move left and right according to the steering
