Climate fan on low when vehicle turns on

Okay, I've RTFM'd and browsed all through the iDrive climate and preference settings, and I can't find an explanation for this, or a way to disable it. I have a 2009 X5, and every time the vehicle is turned on (radio ready mode) or started, the blower comes on at the lowest setting. It seems to be just the blower fan running - no A/C or head setting is selected.

It is quite annoying actually - especially in the winter when it wants to blow very cold air at me! Have I missed an instruction for this? Does anyone know how to disable this "feature"?

Mine seems to work well in starting at the lowest fan speed until the temp warms up. Also it correctly defaults to the floor vents for heat to start with.

I don't want the fan on at all when I start it. Picture the outside temp at 15 degrees, and the fan immediately starts pulling that freezing air into the cabin... most annoying. There MUST be a way to disable this "auto fan" function? I just can't find any documentation that references it.

Anyone know?

Sounds like the parked car ventilation feature. Not sure if it's the same to deactivate it on a 2009 but for 2011 the manual says go to "Settings" then "Climate" and uncheck "Activate parked-car vent". Give that a try.

If you manually hit the fan button down past the lowest setting the climate / fan should turn completely off and will stay off.

This is normal. Fan always starts when car is turned on. . Usually at the last setting unless it was already on low. The only time it does not come on is if you turn the fan off and turn off the car then return within 10 minutes and start the car. Otherwise, the fan will be on low when you re-start. it's a BMW thing. There is no way to disable, unless perhaps it can be coded out

I'd say that one out of ten times, the car will start WITHOUT a fan turned on, but the remaining nine times, the fan always comes on REGARDLESS if it was on or off when the car was shut down.

I have a theory that BMW designed it this way to help evaporate any condensation that builds up in the ducting when the car is not being operated, so as to prevent mildew, etc.

It can only be disabled through coding. Find somebody in your area to code the a/c to be off when you start the car. There's alot of bmw coders in your area(new york). Some of them even do it for free. Try checking the e90 forum. I already coded mine to be off by default.

AC is off when I start car. The issue is fan on low speed always on at start.

Mine does that too. It does save the setting from when you previously had it on. Don't see anything in Climate settings to deactivate though. It will become annoying when it gets really hot out, blowing hot air in the summer.

That is what I was meant to say fan is always on when you start the car. It can only be turned off through coding. No settings can be done to turn this off aside from coding (accessing the module to turn off this feature). This is the default setting when it came out of the factory. If only you're close by I can do it in less than 5mins using NCSEXPERT.
