Is it true that the X6 pneumatic suspension is only applied to the back wheels?

A friend (BMW fanatic) told me about this. . .

That's puzzling me. . The Touareg has it on all wheels. .

Not planning to get anymore than soft off roading with the X6 when I'll get it.

.but anyhow. .I got a bit dissapointed when I heard that.

Did you ever think that the X6 was NOT designed for off road use?...Drive a VW on the open road and you will quickly discover the difference.

I understood the pneumatic suspension was to level out the car when it was heavily loaded. This would be the case if a trailer was being towed, or a heavy load in the back, hence it only being on the back wheels. If you order an X5 with 3rd row of seats, the pneumatic suspension is automatically added also (ie you must have it) because of the load it causes in the back.
Would what you are talking about on other cars more be equivalant to Active drive?

That is correct, this option is called the 'Self-Leveling Pneumatic Rear Suspension' and is only intended to correct or adjust the suspension according to the load. I think you are confusing the self-leveling rear suspension with the adaptive drive option that changes the suspension from a softer into a more firmer setup in the sport mode. This works on all wheels not only the rear wheels!

I think xdrive 50i is right..you can also use self leveling rear suspension when you are using trailer.hope helps.

The pneumatic suspension is only to adjust the back level to ensure it's upright. The Adaptive Drive (which includes damper control) is what lets you adjust the suspension, from what I understand.

X6 and new X5 owners can clear us up on what exactly you can control with the Adaptive Drive, except how it strengthens the suspension in turns.
