Wally, you are the man! Now all you need to do is travel around and do the work as well! I have an air conditioned garage in sunny Florida, lots of beer, and tv/cable in the garage for when working on the X. Feel free to come visit.

Real funny, the garage is my favorite place in the house. My buddy has a X5M too so I get all the fun I can handle. Truth is, working on these cars is a lot of fun and simple to do. Most everything is strait forward, and if you can get instructions anything is possible.

On my M5 I replaced my rod bearings and that was one serious job, but ended up being actually very simple because of great instruction by other forum members. I wish I could get my hands on the service manual for the X5M, but the closest I can do is bother my local Indy for instructions.

One other upcoming project that needs to be addressed is walnut blasting the intake valves to remove the carbon build up on the valves. Ever since Direct Injection has been introduced, carbon build up is just a fact of life. I am very interested to see what the valves looking like. On most the N54 and N55 motors cleaning intervals is being recommended at 30,000. Dealerships and Indy are doing this job. And BMW makes a Cleaning Tool that fits right into the intake and has a port for the media blaster. I will most likely have my Indy do the job once so I can see how it is done then from there on out do it my self.

I agree man, I absolutely love working on the cars myself. However, between the house and the family, time is often too little lately. Sucks too, the garage is often my zen place.

Great links on the walnut blasting, I hadn't see that video or kit, and both are great. I would be grateful if you could post/pass on any service manuals you can get as I'm out of warranty and all maintenance tasks are pretty daunting on the S63 compared to my old E46.

for the fuel injectors on x5m, i think i have done a pretty good research. It requires a lot of special tools to disassemble the parts on the engine. This job requires 9 hour of labor.

the parts itself only cost $1098 for 8 injectors. If you want to know how to do it, i can send you the instruction, but you have to get a laptop<==>OBD(ECU) connected for fuel injector calibration.

if the dealer doing that for you, the labor you are looking for a # around $135-150@9

Hey guys, finally I have my x done with the replacement.

The actual quote for the fuel injectors cost a little bit more.

It is about $150 each and there are new seal $8 each.

So the price around $158 each, that thing was made in Italy. Lol I thought oem parts were from Germany.

The annoying cel went off, that's it was causing mixture control fault code.
29E0,29E1

I found a nice guy who did the job pretty cheap. Reliable dude from Brooklyn.

What did he charge you for labor? His price for the injectors was pretty good, ECS had them for $ 159.22 with the seals and rings. How does the Beast feel now with new injectors? Do you notice anything other than the light being off?

His labor price is $70 per hour.
He finished the job in 2 days but I didn't watching him doing the job.
Total he charged $800

The beast feel like smoother and sound much louder.

I let my cousin/friend drives it, I can hear the exhaust sound from the end of the block to the mid of that.

Don't have the balls to try that out yet, the weather is bad in NYC now.

Index 11 and higher is what BMW views and acceptable but the current revision is 13.

So I'm looking at a 2012 X5M (S63B4400 engine, built date 07/2011), OE warranty expires august 2015.

Question: why is everyone replacing injectors? Is the S63 engine going the same route as the N63 ...?

I just went through the N63 engine campaign on my X5 50i, received index 13 injectors and a whole host of other things.

Should this N63 campaign apply to the S63 engine as well, or is the likely hood that it will happen small because not enough S63 engines are affected?

On 2012 I don't think you will have anything to worry about, because the index on the 2012 injector should be 11 or higher on the injectors. While the N63 and S63 are similar they really are two very different motors with different engine management specs, parts, ect.

I highly doubt that BMW will offer anything for the S63. Mine is a 2010 and I have close to 100,000 miles on it so I am just gathering some preventative maintenance information.

The reason why is causing the cel. And there is dipping on the fuel injectors.

After the fuel injectors replacement, like other said there is a huge improvement on the mpg even I am doing most of the time with m mode with sport. The injectors still under the break in period for the Ecu.

But, the most important changes my mpg changed from the 6.0 to 9.3 mpg now lol.

I will try to do a distance from to testing the mpg.

Wow - 6-9.3 mpg? My best average using 2 tanks of gas is 19mpg but I drove it like a grandma, mostly 75-80 on cruise control. Nowadays, I average about 13.5mpg mixed driving.

BTW, can you PM me your repair guy's info? I might just drive up there and visit relatives while mine gets done.

i never drove like a grandma, the best i can get from the highway drive mixed a little city was 14.9 MPG, i was start to cry

i don't have a chance to test the same distance for better mileages after the fuel injectors were replaced.

He used to work at BMW shop, then he has his own shop.

Didn't see this but my car is a 12. Still on original injectors AFAIK, didn't see them replaced on any of the service records. At 48k miles now.. I think it has something to do with bad fuel. There are also cars, generally the older ones, that are running the older type injector.
