EXOTICH: Need Advice
Hi, guys recently I was talking to my SA about getting a tune and having him sharing his thoughts about any warranty issues I may have down the road. Now my SA is a real gear head and owns a Cobra and a E90 M3.
My SA is really familiar with my X5M, as he was the SA to the previous owner of this vehicle. To my amazement he tells me that the previous owner of this vehicle had a tune done, and because of a ("bad tune", I suppose) they had to rebuilt the engine from the bottom end and wait a couple of months to get parts from Germany. This is the pic he took of the engine when it was removed: Now none of this was mentioned on the CARFAX report and I bought the vehicle from the same dealer that serviced this car. I purchased the M back in September of last year with 48,000 miles, it now has 53K. This was never disclosed to me and I have contacted corporate and my selling dealer. Corporate said they would file a complaint on my behalf and investigate this and I am still waiting a call back from the Sales Manager. Even though I did purchase the extended warranty through the dealer,I didn't spend all this money on a vehicle that has a rebuilt engine. I would have never found out that they sold me a car with a re-built engine, if I wasn't close with my SA. So what would you guys do in my case? |

Well, I can tell you one thing... Whether its good or bad, you decide... That is NOT your engine... Firstly, you can see 5 holes on the side, and they're all coated in BLACK... That means that those are most likely exhaust ports (but even if they're intake ports...) and there's 5 of them, indicating that this engine is a V10.

SA's are not mechanics, why would you think they know anything mechanical? All they know how to do is quote services, up sell you on parts and services and tell you what they think they know based on past experiences. Hear say at the best.

Thank You, for the help guys. This has been a huge sigh of relief. I feel much better now, knowing that engine isn't from (for) my vehicle. Can't believe my SA will tell me something like that and then send me a pic of a V10 engine. This is why I love these forums. I will be following up with the service manager at that dealership shortly!
