9500ix. That thing worked perfectly, stored and warned of all the red light camera data and could be updated from their website. It also was gps enabled, and would recognize false hits and eliminate them, so it wouldn't go off every time you drive past lowes on the way to work.

This looks super cool!
One question though; Does concealing the main V1 unit in the headrest (BMW X5M) negate the laser radar detection functionality?
Thanks.

^ yes it does, laser is light, and if it's blocked by anything in any way detection function will be rendered useless

Is the laser feature one that is worthy of keeping (to actually guard against getting a citation from a laser cop) or does it only alert when you when it is too late?

Aleks.
Pardon my ignorance, but what is the Quad LI setup?

^ laser alert on a detector isn't of much use these days, by the time it alerts, the cop would have got your speed already, so it's not really a defensive measure but more of a fyi you just got shot, if you were speeding pull over now

Quad LI is laser interceptor with 4 heads

Yes, what theaudir8fan said. Laser alert on a radar detector only lets you know that you are getting pulled over. I am new to laser jammers but I'll try to explain them as I know it. The laser beam shooting out of the laser is very narrow so typically the cop is targetting you when you get hit with laser, the beam is like 2-3 feet narrow. A radar signal is much more wider which is why radar detectors are effective against the traditional radar guns.

A LI or Laser Intercepter, often called laser jammers, jam the laser signal and lets you know that you are being hit. What you do next is slow down to PSL or posted speed limit, turn off your jammer, let the cop see your speed, and then move on. Otherwise, the cop will get suspicious. Now, these so called heads are like the parking sensors on our cars, but only bigger and oval in shape. Each head jams about 1-2 feet radius, so having one head is not enough protection. The bigger the car, the more heads you need. Generally you put two in the front, and this is referred to as dual setup, dual head. What if the cop hits you with laser from behind? Then you need rear heads. Sometimes people with smaller cars get one and put it in the rear. Hence, the setup is called tri setup, etc. The Quad setup is generally what most people get as a good counter measure: two heads in the front, two in the rear. The cops will try to target your headlights, taillights and license plates to get a speed reading, so head should be placed accordingly.

AL Priority makes the best laser jammers right now. They are pricey though, about $1,500-2,000 for quad setup. Most people couple the laser jammers with the Bel Stir-R Plus radar detector.

From the AL Priority website, there appears to be no information about radar jammers, rather it looks like they are selling expensive parking sensors?

Yup, LI sat on their laurels of being the best for about 5 years, and now they cannot jam the dragon eye guns, or new guns with variable pulse rate. I still run my LI dual setup, but an upgrade is definitely in my future

Just out of curiosity... Do you guys drive enough, or fast enough, that you need $2-3000 worth of radar and laser jamming equipment?!

I understand that many of you are made of money and buy every damn thing you can, but seriously, is all of this really necessary? How about just driving the speed limit, or at least 5-10mph over...?

Am I missing something?!

I am mostly a responsible driver and I rarely drive more than 5-7 over, but having an X5M is tempting and I feel the need to protect myself. If I happen to find a clear on ramp, the X5M can easily be into triple digits before settling back into the "safe" range... and If there happens to be a police officer hiding under that bridge, my insurance rates just tripled.

You own an X5M. Tell me you've never done this?

5-10 over here will net you some serious insurance surcharges. Ontario has the highest insurance premiums in North America.
Made of money? I drive a 6 year old BMW

Haha yes, you have to consider the cost benefit analysis. I haven't installed jammers but a lot of times, people say they've only been hit with laser 5-7 times over the last 2-3 years of having them installed. Is it worth the $2,000? That's up to you to decide how much your speeding ticket, lawyer and court fees, insurance hikes cost. In some counties where laser is used more frequently than radar, the benefit may be there. I know in NY more and more departments are using laser.

As for the speeding issue, I usually go 10-15 over the PSL when there is other traffic around me going the same. If I'm alone on the road, I try not to go over 10. There are people who always wants to be the fastest on the road, so they like to go faster than the guys whose already going 15 over the PSL so more like 20-25. A few times I've hit 90ish on straight stretches but don't stay at that speed for long.

In most places cops rarely shoot from the rear, so for most people a duel setup on the front is sufficient, and in those cases, the kit would be under $1000, so there are ways to do things for cheaper. ALP is expensive compare to the others, if you are willing to settle for LI or Blinder, they are around the $500-600 mark.

As for if it's worth it, I say yes defiantly, say if you got hit 3 times, those 3 tickets plus the lawyer fees of dealing with them and the fines you have to pay at the end, plus the demerits on your license that effects your insurance rate, will quickly add up to be way more than the $1-2000 you will spend on these equipment.

as for how much I speed, honestly quite a lot, but I live by a highway and I don't speed recklessly, I just have little regards for the speed limit since they aren't what I consider reasonable, especially for a our cars. Also this highway that I'm referring to is 3 lanes per side and the speed limit is 50mph, which is just retarded

For the M guys on here, we drive $100K 3 ton SUV's capable of 4.0 0-60 times.

I think we all passed need a long time ago. I'm not 100% sure I even remember what that word means anymore.
