2010 X5 35d CPO Door Lock Actuator
Hey All,
I have having a few issues with my 2010 CPO X5 35d. One of them is the passenger door lock is sticking... I can get it to unlock via the button on the center console but using the handle doesn't always unlock the door. I pinged my SA (who has always been awesome to me) about this and he said it sounds like the door lock actuator and said that it was not covered under CPO. I thought this was weird but he said it is $499 installed. It seems odd to me that this of all parts is not covered under the extended CPO warranty? I did some google searches and people on this board (for other models of BMWs) say it is covered under CPO.. can anyone confirm / deny this? TIA Last edited by batlin; 11-18-2014 at 03:06 PM.. |

You should read your paperwork to see what is covered and not. It should be listed plain as day.
This is a current link to CPO Wrap GOLD: http://cache.bmwusa.com/Pdf_9955677c...c29113198.arox Under Electrical, door locks are listed. |

http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...eoverride=true In this is lists that locks are not covered "; latch and lock mechanisms and their related components " I am confused. Are there different types of CPO? I bought my 2010 X5 9 months ago from the local BMW dealer and it has a 2 year CPO + Maintenance. Last edited by batlin; 11-18-2014 at 04:36 PM.. |

That sucks. Unless you know what's NOT covered (exclusionary), you often won't until you try to make a claim. This is yet another reason why I saved my money by neither buying CPO nor extending my warranty. I know it's not everyone's preference, but I'd rather DIY or give it to my indy Euro mechanic to handle instead. Those BMW warranty underwriters know what their doing for their company...

Are there different types of CPO warranties? Is the warranty people get when they 'extend' their factory warranty after the 4 year different then when you buy a CPO? |

I don't know for sure since I didn't buy CPO. Like you, I would think a CPO warranty mirrors that of the factory warranty. However, that does not appear to be the case, as my factory warranty would have definitely covered a door lock actuator and anything else that went wrong, as long as I'm not at fault. The underwriters of the CPO warranties are very likely the same folks who underwrite the BMW extended warranties, since they're both crunching numbers to ensure BMW, overall, comes out ahead. When extending the factory warranty prior to expiration, there are many options for coverage with varying costs. I chose to keep my money in the bank. Your CPO issue may be a big unknown for many people, who are under the impression that their CPO warranty mirrors the factory warranty. I'm certain many people do not read the fine print of CPO warranties (I admit I probably wouldn't have), and salesmen probably "puff" about the coverage. I'd be interested to hear from others with CPO warranty claims experience...

I agree with you on the 'not reading fine print' When we bought this X5 it just came with the CPO, it isn't anything I added other wise I most likely would have read a little closer. I have my servicer appointment today so we will see what happens. |

Crap. I just saw last week how my passenger side door lock is starting to pop up (the thing by the window) slower and slower. Not looking forward to spending $500 on that.
Who is your SA at BMW of Austin? |

I'm unsure what the weather is like down there in Austin for a DIY fix, but I'd be happy to work with you guys here on the forum before you yield to the dealership spending big bucks. No need to add insult to CPO injury by giving them more money. If interested, get the part number from the SA or Google/eBay it to find a cheapo. I'd imagine removing the door panel (card) shouldn't be too hard, again, weather permitting. While I'm not experiencing this problem, I'd have to wait until Spring to do it here, as the temperature here is about to take a dump again...
