Opinion - BMS JB4 or RaceChip Ultimate - 35i E70
I spent a good couple of hours last night researching the Burger JB4 or RaceChip Ultimate and I just can't work out what to go for. I have a 2011 xDrive 35i and what a plug and play with not much fuss - I can find dyne results for the Burger JB4 but not much info on the RaceChip.
I have had three Burger Motorsport piggybacks so know that are good, just looking at other options before I commit. Has anyone fitted a RaceChip to their 35i? |

Burger has a bigger community following. I'd go that route.

I like Burger. You can send Terry an email and he responds back usually same day with any answer to any questions.

I have the BMS and am looking into the Cobb. I think the Cobb is much better than the BMS as you can run different settings on the Cobb. The Cobb only supports up to 2011 and maybe some early 2012s but I haven't tried yet.

You have to give your VIN to them to verify. It's not so much year, but more so build dates. Josh@ Cobb is your man to help you with that. I think he's in Austin TX.
I've had mine installed near a year at this point, running a stage 1+ map. Works great.

I have the JB3 in my car for almost a year now. I forget how a stock 35i drives. I like the tune a lot. Best value for the amount of power you get. The intake, you don't get any power increase, only better sound. Would hear the turbo spool. I didn't get the intake.

Sorry for the late reply but I think I already PMed you my feedback.
I like the tune, it does have a little more power, there are also a couple of downsides since this isn't a custom tune. The car feels a little unsure at certain times, the gas pedal feels like it has a flat spot at lower RPMs since now it does try to select a lower gear sometime prematurely I feel. Maybe I just haven't noticed it before even though I had this truck since new, around 5 years now. The intake does let you hear the turbo, I like that sound so I'm no disappointed in it. I still have the tune as well so I'm keeping the extra grunt and just have to live with the small shortcomings. Initially I had a couple of codes thrown (overboosting and 4wd warning), after clearing the codes they haven't come back so I don't know if it was a fluke or what. The overboosting could've came from a gap in the intake tube, I re-tied my connectors and cleared the codes after that. I think 4wd was thrown because of the weak battery a couple of months prior. Overall I like the tune, and I'm keeping it for the time being, hope it helps! |

I have the Cobb APV2. I also have the VRSF downpipe, charge pipe, and intercooler and the BMS Intake. There is a nice increase in power over stock. Mine also throws a code at high speeds 130+. Other than that I drive it everyday and it's very reliable.

Cobb really is the best option if you want to futureproof yourself. You can program, unprogram, clear codes, and get a custom tune too. All in a nice handheld device

I was under the impression that the accessport was not avaialable for late production E70s. Mine is a 13'.

Very possible, which is why I said earlier to check with Cobb and your VIN.

Sounds like an overboost condition or no removal of the speed limiter. Only a ProTune can fix those issues. Which you could extract even more power than the base maps.

Sorry, didn't see the post when you replied.
From what I read, the BMS Data cable works for the JB3. You plug it in and install the JB software which will get you the logs and you can even change boost values if you like. http://www.burgertuning.com/USB_Cable_Extension.html Also, yes, JB4 doesn't work on the E70 chassis. The JB tune that works on the E70 is the N55 Stage 1 or what everyone refers to as JB3 |

I'll have to write try to see if he makes the JB3 anymore or if it's strictly an I6 engine kinda thing. Thanks.
