mobile phone built-in charger removal
I have a 2013 X6M and have no use for the mobile phone charger/adapter located inside the center armrest.
This thing is occupying half the space for the storage compartment in the center armrest. Is there anyway to remove the whole thing? The manual only described how to remove the snap-in adapter...i want to remove the whole contraption. Thanks |

You will need a pair of pliers, a bunny rabbit, and a 1/4 inch socket. Beyond that, I am at a loss myself.

After that pointless post...
When I got my iPhone5 to replace my 4, I wanted to take mine out too. I got part way done and got stuck, so I put it back in again. Recently I took the iPhone cradle far enough apart to remove the springs that push away the phone and hooked up a 4->5 pigtail that trails just a little outside the console between the doors. The phone acts just like its in the cradle. The phone is secure because that Apple cable is short and sturdy and clamped tight by those doors. I like using it this way way better than the cradle. I can leave the case on the phone to use it and I don't accidentally leave it in the car anymore! |

Can someone, who has done it before or knows how to, please provide instructions on how to remove it without damaging anything. I have one too that I would like to remove in order to gain full available storage space in arm-rest compartment

I did talk to the Service department and there are no easy way to take it apart.
I have since given up and decided to live with this stupid design. |

In my old (2011) X5 which I still own for one more month, I literally ripped it out and cut the cord. I was concerned I was going to get some light on the dash, But it never came. Haven't had a problem since. Good luck

I hope someone has found a DIY (and hopefully not too complicated) way to remove this phone cradle. I went to dealer today and got quoted $500 range. I have tried with other dealers as well and got similar responses that it just takes a lot of time to accomplish.

Go to the E70 X5M forum and search
I remember reading a detailed thread about this... it can be done and you have to order a base plate to install in the bottom of the storage compartment once you have taken out the cradle to cover the holes...
Hope this helps.
