2012 BMX X5 35i 3.0L Transmission Malfunction

So this past weekend, as I went to accelerate out of a turn, my car suddenly stopped responding to the accelerator, and I got a "Transmission Malfunction" error message on the screen. I had it towed to my dealer and they showed an error code/DTC of: 004FD0 "Position Specification" for the Electronic Transmission Control. They are telling me that it will cost $7k for a rebuilt transmission inclusive of a replacement of the mechatronic. That is obviously a lot of money to put into a car that is 12 years old w/ relatively low <90k miles and I'm reaching out in hopes that others may have other options or suggestions on what I should ask them to consider before pulling the trigger on a rebuild.
